Flor de Cana 7 Year Old Rum - 70cl 40%
Date Added: Friday 27 April, 2018
I am normally a whisky drinker, and have been for the last thirty years or so. I used to drink rum but after a rather over indulgent night years ago, l stopped drinking rum. When l saw this on offer with the cigars l decided to give it a try. Wow im so glad I did this is a truly lovely drink. Smooth and very mellow with just the right amount of kick. To be honest it tastes just like a good whisky l love this rum and would highly recommend it.

After trying the excellent petit torpedo, thought I would try the robusto, bit disappointed in the robusto, found it to have a very tight draw,as such not much taste or aroma coming through, not as good as the petit torpedo.maybe just had a dud.

I had one of these yesterday as I did my shopping at the market. I was a little dubious after a dud cadetes from the same company, but this was good, rich, easy going, flavourful and sweet. It’s not going to replace my usuals, but I’d buy some more for occasional smoking. Outside in the autumn, idling around, it was perfect.

Fonseca No. 1 Cigar - 1 Single

It was interesting to read the other comments, as I experienced a bit of this and a bit of that. For example, in my opinion it was a medium draw that needed effort, albeit moderate, to keep it going. Nevertheless, the construction was first class. Amongst cigar smokers I not only have to list myself under ‘occasional’ but also as a weakling. In other words I could not possibly cope with something like a Punch. Mildness and sweet natured are my buzz words, and this one hits the spot. I got nuts, cedar and – like another reviewer – a hint of harshness at the beginning that disappeared very quickly and then developed into a delightful subtle flavour that lasted. Only halfway through did I get some tarry spiciness but even then it was not overpowering, and once again, quite curiously, it disappeared again. I had this maturing in my humidor for four years so that might have something to do with it but from me it comes highly recommended. This was my first Fonseca but definitely not the last; an early evening smoke that goes along nicely with Port and Pecorino.

This was quite a nice smooth relaxing smoke, well constructed, consistent, even burn to the end and a good cool draw throughout. Very slight herbal/hay and woody taste. The tissue paper is a nice touch too. Will buy again...
