I bought this out of curiosity as it sounded like it would be something different. This cigar is a thing of beauty and the construction appeared impeccable. The band looked classy yet understated. The wrapper was dark and glistening with oil. The tapered end meant that it fit my mouth rather well, even though my normal preference is for a somewhat narrower ring gauge than this. So, how did it smoke?. The burn line started off a little bit wavy (not unusual for a perfecto) but quickly evened out after the taper and remained razor sharp right up to the end of the smoke. The draw was also a little bit firm to begin with but again this opened up wonderfully once past the taper, becoming pretty much perfect. Ash retention was exceptional, I guarantee that you will knock it off long before it will fall of its own accord. As for the taste, have your flavour wheel handy as you're in for a bit of everything. It started off with citrus, herbs and spice (even a hint of mint at one point), before introducing notes of chocolate, coffee, earth and leather with a slight nuttiness drifting in and out. No two puffs seemed quite the same. This really is quite the flavour bomb. The aroma coming off this thing was unlike any other cigar that I have experienced. The makers say they were aiming for the scent of Egyptian incense and I suspect that they may well have nailed it. With a few notable exceptions, it has been a long time since I have enjoyed a New World cigar as much as this one. I bought this as a single but I am sorely tempted to buy a box.
