The José L. Piedra brand was established in 1880 by Vicente and José Lamadrid Piedra in the pre-revolutionary era of Cuba’s tobacco boom. After a short hiatus in the 1990s, the brand was revived and quickly regained popularity both domestically and internationally.

Unlike most Cuban cigars, which are produced using tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region, José L. Piedra cigars are crafted with tobaccos grown in Vuelta Arriba, a historic region known for its strong, rustic character. Production takes place in the town of Santa Clara, in the province of Villa Clara, where these cigars are handmade with consistency and care.
