Hmmm ... first time I've tried these and they're a little disappointing. The shape and size grading are terrible but the burn is good and only a couple of the bundle were plugged. They're very well priced but the downside is the strength and flavour. If you after a decent well bodied smoke then stick (pun wholly intended) with the the Monty Nbr 4, RYJ, Bolivers etc ... sometimes it really is worth paying more and getting quality!! That said, great for handing out to friends who don't generally smoke but always take a free cigar when offered ... just keep a Monty back for yourself.

It's been a while since I left my original review of this type and brand of cigar. Since my last post I have 'indulged' in more expensive brands such as Montecristo, Punch, and Romeo Y Julieta. So what's new? Well for a start, the RYJ made me physically throw up! Not a great smoke at all. As for the Punch and Monte, they were ok, but nothing special. I've had several more Piedra's (both Nacionales and Cazadores) and these kick the arse of the above 'premium' brands. They're cheap (too cheap perhaps for a Cuban?) and certainly a lot more than cheerful. In my humble opinion they deserve much more kudos than they currently get. A great smoke from start to finish, though they certainly do benefit from a few months in a humidor/humijar (but what cigar doesn't?). I'm going to order these again- and so will you once you've given them a go!! They're the Cuban worker's cigar of choice, and those guys can't be wrong. Roll on Jose L Piedra, your cigars rock- cheers!!

A great cheap cigar. No, it`s not the most complex smoke in the world, no, it`s not the best looking, either, but at half the price (or less) of a "named" Cuban (and considerably better than some I`ve smoked) - this is a fine cigar and a firm favourite. It`s not the kind of cigar to plan a meal around or crack open a bottle of vintage port with - it`s exactly what it`s made for in Cuba - an "every day working mans` cigar". 4/5 for taste, 5/5 for value - just shows you how overpriced most Cubans are. Not for the aficionado - not at aficionado prices, either. Highly recommended.

Have just smoked one of these for the first time and have thoroughly enjoyed it.Im still new to cubans so maybe my opinion doesnt count for much but its hard to believe that cigars that cost two to three hundred pounds per box can be that much better.Ill be buying some more, full marks for the quality at the price.

havent had a bad one of these cigars yet, working my way through a box at the moment. all of the sticks out of it so far have burned even and consistent, certainly better than one of the pricier cubans I had at the weekend, was dissapointed with the offering from the bigger name in comparison. I am noticing a big difference in them as they are left in my humidor, a little age (even a few weeks) seems to make a big difference to the smoke. my advice would be to suck on one and see what you make of it.

The reviews (net-wide) for these cigars seem polarised between glorious praise and damning criticism. I have smoked many Jose Piedras, all 3 of the easily available sizes in fact, and can honestly say that they are a very palatble and enjoyable brand. The Nacionales in paricular are a great easy going cigar, cheap enough to pass some around your friends, yet sophisticated enough to really enjoy. No, they are certainly not world class items, but they are no worse than many I could name that sell for twice the price. Go on, put your prejudices aside for a moment and try one. I expect youll be pleasantly surprised; I was :)
