Pappy Van Winkle is one of the most talked about drink and it's one of the most hard to find bourbon's about. This sampler consists of two bottles which are an alternative to the Pappy Van Winkle and we're calling it "Poor Mans Pappy." 

The idea is to get a 50:50 mix of the two of these bourbons, with this mixture you are introduced to a completely new 98.5 proof bourbon which is on par to Pappy Van Winkle.

What makes Pappy so unique is that it is wheated Bourbon. When they teamed up with Buffalo Trace they began using BT’s wheated mash bill, the same wheated mash bill used for the W.L. Weller Bourbons. Only the Pappy Van Winkle 23 year is still Stitzel-Weller juice. The rest was distilled and aged by Buffalo Trace. While you can’t replicate Pappy exactly you can come close. This blend originated on the Straight Bourbon forum years ago as an alternative to Weller Centennial.

W. L. Weller is a brand of wheated bourbon whiskey which is named after William Larue Weller (1825–1899), who was a bourbon whiskey distiller in the early days of Kentucky. The Original Wheated Bourbon Whiskey features an exceptionally smooth taste, substituting wheat for rye grain.

Buffalo Trace’s stunning bourbon William Larue Weller, named after the man famed for being the first to create “wheated bourbon”, in which the spicy rye grain is substituted for wheat in the mashbill. The result is a smooth, supple little sippin’ whiskey. Sadly very hard to find, but a stunning whiskey none the less.
