Turmeaus Norfolk at the Rum Festival

On Saturday evening, after a busy day at Turmeaus Norfolk, Liam and I had the pleasure of going to Rum Fest Norwich - a decadent evening featuring over 100 different rums as well as live entertainment from various Caribbean themed bands.Rum is the second most popular spirit in the world and after tasting our way through a big chunk of the one's on offer, we could see why!

Some of our favourites were:

Dictador 20 y/o - A Columbian rum with soft caramel flavours, magnificent just on the rocks.

Dark Matter - A spiced rum from Aberdeen, a very full bodied spicy and gingery spirit. Mix it up with some Ting for an easy, tasty cocktail.

Ron Cubay 3 y/o Blanca - A lively white rum that makes an excellent daiquiris!

I'd also like to give a little shout out to Kieran from Cellar Trends, who's previously done a whisky tasting for us in our shop, it was great to bump into him showcasing some of their rums this time (I didn't realise Pusser's did a spiced rum - it was delicious!). Another stand that we had to drag ourselves away from was Cloven Hoof spiced rum. A very unique, heavily clove-y, fiery spirit that's super easy to sip neat, we hope to have this on our shelves soon.Once the live music was in full swing we thought it must be time to visit the flair bartenders for a truly special cocktail. We went for two very different drinks, both are a real must try though!

There is plenty of tasty and exciting cocktails to be made with rum, probably due to the vast differences in flavours you can get. If you haven't considered yourself a rum drinker in the past, I highly recommend starting your journey! We have a huge amount of different rums to choose from but I'd suggest starting out with something easy going, like the Ron Barcelo Imperial, or a lightly spiced rum like Sailor Jerry. If you would like any advice on choosing any of our spirits, speak to one of our expertly trained staff.
