Rubicon's lineage can be traced to the historic Inglenook estate founded by Gustave Niebaum, purchased by Francis Ford Coppola in 1975, and renamed Rubicon.
94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc - though nearly all vintages of Rubicon contain Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon was so expressive and had such a desirable texture on its own it was decided that Merlot did not need to be added to the blend.
The addition of the highly coloured, high energy Petit Verdot added immediate mouthfeel and seamless texture. Furthermore, because of the intense flavours in the fruit, only small quantities of Cabernet Franc were included.
The wine was then aged in new French oak barrels for twenty months, to soften the tannins before finally being bottled, the finishing touches to a fantastic wine.
