    OLIVA

The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

As with so many cigar stories, Gilberto Oliva Sr. faced a difficult road. He left his native Cuba in 1964, and eventually started working for the Plasencia family in Honduras. In 1995 he and his son Gilberto Jr. created a cigar within Plasencia’s factory called Gilberto Oliva. A year later, they set out to open a factory of their own, and shortened their brand name to Oliva.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

    OLIVA ORCHANT SELECCION

This cigar is the result of collaboration between Mitchell Orchant, Tor Imports and Oliva to produce a uniquely blended Oliva cigar tailored to meet Mitchell’s high standards and the UK cigar smokers palate; all at affordable prices!

Mitchell underwent a rigorous sampling exercise in the summer of 2014 to carefully select the blend and create a stylish design using the award winning Serie V Melanio as his inspiration.

    Cigars need a BOOST?

  • This cigar is a super creamy smoke, offering a silky array of aromas which fill the room. You will be introduced to spice as you begin this smoke which is complimented with cedar wood and a subtle pepper tone. This does mellow by the half way point and continues to be a creamy and delicious earthy and woody finale.

  • You cannot get any better than Oliva! Look at the high profile awards that they have collected over the last few years:-

    - Oliva V Melanio Figuarado had been awarded the No. 1 Cigar of the Year by the Cigar Aficionado blind test panel
    - The Oliva V Melanio Double Toro was ranked number 5 cigar of 2014 by the Cigar Journal
    - Oliva were presented with the UK Cigar Producer of the Year in 2014 by the Spectator Cigar Awards in November in London

Draw, burn and construction is solid. No question. Its a smooth smoke, definitely a day/lunch time option. Medium strength. Flavours were a little light - was experiencing cedar, possibly a touch of leather but nothing more. Not a bad cigar but unsure if Id hurry back for another.

I had a quality 45 mins spent with this tasty Oliva Orchant seleccion stick. A good day time smoke! Leaves a nice clean after taste on the pallete. Smooth, good flavours through and medium strength. Good value. Will definitely smoke one again.

A very pleasant smoke. A smooth cedar and leather flavour; good draw and even burn. About 55mins smoking time. Too expensive for a regular smoke (£15.59) but worth having a few for a treat.

You’ll find it hard to find a cigar as good as this for the price. This is my go to cigar for a mid morning or afternoon smoke. I am yet to have a bad one of these, consistently good draw, burn and flavours throughout. A light white pepper taste which is never overpowering. This is perfect for someone who wants to enjoy a good daily cigar but doesn’t have the budget for Cubans.

Absolute beaut of a cigar, always kicks off with a good bit of pepperines to start with and is full of flavour throughout. The draw is always perfect as is the burn. I can honestly say I have smoked plenty of these over the last couple of years and never had a bad one. It also passes my Friday night test and pairs perfectly with a Guinness to ease the stresses of the working week.
