We are proud to introduce you to the Orchant Seleccion Oliva cigars which are exclusive to CGars, Turmeaus and Robert Graham stores across the UK.
This cigar is the result of collaboration between Mitchell Orchant, Tor Imports and Oliva to produce a uniquely blended Oliva cigar tailored to meet Mitchell’s high standards and the UK cigar smokers palate; all at affordable prices!
You cannot get any better than Oliva at the moment! Look at the high profile awards that they have collected in the last 3 months:-
- Oliva V Melanio Figuarado just been awarded the No1 Cigar of the Year by the Cigar Aficionado blind test panel. - The Oliva V Melanio Double Toro was ranked number 5 cigar of 2014 by the Cigar Journal. - Oliva were presented with the UK Cigar Producer of the Year in 2014 by the Spectator Cigar Awards in November in London.
Mitchell underwent a rigorous sampling exercise in the summer of 2014 to carefully select the blend and create a stylish design using the award winning Serie V Melanio as his inspiration.
The cigars are boxed in 10’s and blend consists of an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, with a Nicaraguan filler and binder.
A little bit of background to Oliva...
The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.
As with so many cigar stories, Gilberto Oliva Sr. faced a difficult road. He left his native Cuba in 1964, and eventually started working for the Plasencia family in Honduras. In 1995 he and his son Gilberto Jr. created a cigar within Plasencia’s factory called Gilberto Oliva. A year later, they set out to open a factory of their own, and shortened their brand name to Oliva.
Business was tough in those days, and Oliva struggled. Faced with dwindling reserves of cash, in a cost-cutting move they turned to Gilberto Sr.’s robust stocks of Nicaraguan tobacco, which changed the flavour profile of Oliva cigars at a time when the interest in Nicaraguan flavour was increasing.
Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.
I'm Writing this as I smoke it.. I'm still finding my way with cigars, so trying all sorts in the name of science! For the money, this is a really nice cigar. Nothing overly complex, or challenging. I agree with some of the other comments of earthy, hay notes, pretty 'dry' on the palette ( if there is such a thing).. Pre burn was quite malty, which is slowly coming out at half way, along with its more 'sweeter' flavours...
FYI there is a good nico hit with these. So if you're a beginner just bare that in mind! But don't let it put you off!
I'm pretty sure this will be a box purchase with the intention to age on for a year or so?

very nice construction with a nice and even burn all the way down. flavours are a little one dimensional for the first 2 thirds with just damp hay and earthy tones, but in the the final third you get toffee and brown sugar with a hint of nuts and then it comes alive. maybe a little over priced but i still would recomend it as it just wasnt quite right for my palate.

I have to say, I'm more than impressed with this cigar. Beautiful blend, chocolate, leather with a kick of pepper.
It's my first Oliva and it won't be my last. Great construction with an even burn never fails to impress me. It's also a fantastic cigar for the price, next time I need to order a full box! Well done to Mitchell, Oliva and the team at Cgars!

Just bought a box of these cigars to try as a less expensive alternative to my usual short churchills.
I must say, although they are obviously a different flavour, the burn and mellow taste are a delight
I find myself trying to keep a cigar going for as long as possible!
A real affordable alternative to the more expensive cubans - I must try more countries tobaccos and not remain a cuban snob!
I will be buying more!
Thank you Mitchell for your introduction
