Cuba’s retired dictator Fidel Castro has signed a humidor, handmade in five precious woods, containing 50 Cohiba Grand Coronos – the star attraction at a July 2 cigar auction at Boisdale Canary Wharf. A spokesman for the organiser, C.Gars Ltd, says it could raise £40,000, or more. Top class cigars are a vestige of the old Cuba which Castro failed to destroy, but the old booby has given up smoking them for health reasons.
