Luxury Brands - Vauen

Vauen create some of the most unique and beautiful pipes available on the market, for over 160 years they have been innovators of the industry from the Diamond pipe which is made using a 3D printer to the Auenland collection which is inspired from the Lord of the Rings books/films.

Vauens history goes back well over a century to 1848. Known as United pipe factories Nuremberg they are the oldest German Pipe company, Vauen is still housed where they began in Nuremberg and is still one of the most beloved manufacturers of briar pipes in Europe. Founded in 1848 by Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener, the original Vauen pipes were made from a variety of different woods, not just briar. The company was doing well but when 1901 came around Vauen really went to the top tier in the smoking world.

In 1901 the Gebhard pipe factory came together with Vauen under the management of Ernst Eckert, Ernests son Adolf would join the company shortly after beginning a long line of Eckerts at the helm of Vauen. To this day an Eckert is still in charge of Vauen.

It was Adolf Eckert who created the name Vauen in 1909, a combination of the letters V (pronounced vow) of Vereinigte Pfeifenfabriken and N (Pronounced en) of Nuremberg. The brand of the future was born.

In 1911, Adolf Eckert began marking his pipes with incredible quality with a white dot on the mouthpiece similar to Dunhill. Dunhill actually took Vauen to court over use of the white dot as it was seen as their trademark. As the court battle continued it is believed that an agreement was settled, Vauen can use the white dot in Germany and Austria and Dunhill could use it for the rest of the world. Vauen pipes made for international sale now are marked with a grey dot.

After 1945 Adolf and his son had to recover from the devastation of World War 2. Together they did this with determination and once again Vauen was back as a household name in the tobacco world.

Since 1982, Alexander Eckert, now the fifth generation of pipe manufacturer and manager of Vauen. Alexander worked hard to increase the international exposure of the brand and continued to grow the business.

In 2016 Martin Ramsauer joined the company as the designated successor of Alexander Eckert, this will be the first time in Vauens history that an Eckert hasn’t been in charge. The trustful succession plan ensure the same values used by the Eckerts are still used in the future as it is proven to be successful.

In 2018 Julia Eckert, the youngest daughter of Alexander Eckert joins the business and represents the 6th generation of the family. Unlike those before her she takes over the Marketing department and is responsible for all marketing activities.

In 2020 Alexander Eckert handed over the entire management to Martin Ramsauer and retired after 38 years. He remains a loyal partner of the business which means it is ensured that the history of Vauen will be honored and continued as it should.
