London to Host World’s Largest Auction of Boxes of Sealed Vintage Havanas
The gavel will go down on 150 boxes of rare pre-embargo Havana cigars at C.Gars Ltd.’s sixth auction at Boisdale Canary Wharf, London on July 2.
Mitchell Orchant, managing director of auction sponsor and cigar merchant C.Gars Ltd., says there will also be “a good and wide selection of much sought-after Davidoff and Dunhill premium cigars, all kept—like the Havanas—in perfect condition.”
Orchant says there is already huge global interest from the world’s cigar aficionados and tickets for the auction and pre-auction events are going fast. Bidders will be flying in from the U.S., European Union, Japan, and China.
According to Brian Ebbesen, former head of cigar auctions at Christie's London who will again wield the gavel, Lot 250 is the most likely to attract the highest bidders on the day.
“This is a magnificent Cohiba Humidor handmade from five precious woods for the 2003 Festival del Habanos and containing 50 Cohiba Gran Coronas and signed by Fidel Castro,” Ebbesen explains. “Some aficionados would say it’s a snip at its estimated price—£30,000 to £40,000 (about $46,000 to $62,000).
Registered bidders will enjoy a rare gathering of some of the world's most discerning cigar aficionados, starting with a pre-auction evening featuring splendid cigars, the finest Champagne and delectable hors d’oeuvres, and great company on the delightful cigar terrace at Ten Manchester Street, London on Sunday, July 1.
Bidders can steady their pre-auction nerves with fine cigars, superlative cocktails, and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres on the Boisdale Canary Wharf Terrace on Monday, July 2 prior to the auction in Boisdale Canary Wharf’s private function room. Successful bidders can compare notes while enjoying more post-auction premium cigars, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres on the Terrace.
Viewings of the entire summer 2012 auction lots are available weekdays by appointment at C.Gars Ltd.’s London offices.
