Learn with Lewis - El Rey del Mundo

As an administrator, my role is extremely varied
within the business here at C.Gars Ltd.

I am extremely interested in the cigars, whisky and other products we have to offer and enthusiastic to learn about them.

Follow me along on this learning journey, as I take you through what I have learnt about our brands so far; hopefully you can learn something new too!

Today I have been learning about the brand El Rey del Mundo.

The Cuban cigar brand of El Rey Del Mundo was believed to be first created in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt who also created Sanch Panza cigars. After Ohmstedt’s death the Cuban cigar company was passed on to Antonio Allones sometime around 1882. El Rey Del Mundo, or ‘King of the World’ in Spanish, was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world. Under Allones’ command it reached the height of its prestige. Allones’ company was later bought out by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia venture owned by Candido Vega Diaz who then later renamed themselves the Rey Del Mundo Cigar Co. To highlight their most famous asset, although other brands such as Sancho Panza, Rafael González, and Don Cándido were also produced by them.

Let's takle a look at some of the most popular vitola from the brand:

Brand and Vitola Size Tasting notes

Choix Supreme

5" length and 48 Ring Gauge  "...Nuanced woods and roasted nuts form the backbone of this bold, flavourful cigar. Coffee bean and caramel elements also emerge before a leathery finish. Its burn is even, its draw full and opulent..." - Cigar Aficionado

Demi Tasse

4" length and 30 Ring Gauge  "...A charming little cigar with subtle box-pressing and a three-seam cap. The smoke is flinty and earthy with graham cracker notes and a mineral finish..." - Cigar Aficionado
