Ian's trip to Nicaragua!
I was delighted to be given the opportunity to visit Nicaragua, a country where some of the finest tobaccos are grown. During my travels we visited a couple of tobacco fields to see how they grow both their shade grown and sun grown tobaccos.
We stopped off at the Drew Estate factory to participate in a cigar blending session with Willy Herrera. Each member of the Cigar Safari group took the chance to blend their very own cigar.
After the stop off at Drew Estate we went over to Joya De Nicargua to meet Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca, owner of Joya De Nicaragua and Juan Martinez, executive president of
Joya De Nicaragua. We enjoyed a full tour of the Joya facilities seeing where they age their tobacco and roll cigars. After the tour we sat down to enjoy another cigar blending session. Here Dr Martinez Cuenca also took the time to show off a box of Joya De Nicaragua cigars that where produced back in 1971.
Next on the itinerary was a visit to Padron. We visited their tobacco fields just on the outside of Esteli town centre and saw how they cure their leaves in the barn.Later on we enjoyed a meal with the guys of Padron; Jorge Padron, Caeser and Rudy.
The trip to Nicaragua was quite an experience and very informative.
