Dunnet Bay Distillers

One of our favourite gin distilleries is all the way at the top of Scotland. Dunnet Bay Distillers, who creates the absolutely delicious Rock Rose Gin, is located in the village of Dunnet and is only three miles from the most northerly point in mainland Britain. This is a beautiful and wild landscape to host such a great distillery.

A family run distillery headed up by Martin and Claire Murray was established with their love of Caithness and desire to produce the perfect spirit to compliment the community. The spirits are crafted in their two ‘girls’, ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘Margaret’, both of which are two bespoke copper pot stills. Especially designed to create small batch spirits using traditional handmade copper heads. Martin, who is a chartered process engineer, oversees the whole crafting process to make sure they are delivering us the best possible quality and flavours! Everything that you see from this distillery is just evidence of the passion they have for their product and the community they serve. Right down to their bottles, which are hand-filled, individually wax-sealed, batch numbered and hand signed. Easily one of the best looking bottles on the market!

Their main offering is the Rock Rose Gin. It took them fifty five attempts to produce the gin that we know today, it proves that trial and error can produce some beautiful results. They use a great selection of carefully chosen botanicals, both traditional and local. Besides the traditional juniper berries that make gin what it is, they also use Sea Buckthorn and Rhodiola Rosea. Sea Buckthorn is a botanical that grows along the coastline that produces a berry like fruit that has 15x more vitamin C than an orange and gives off a beautifully crisp fruity flavour. Rhodiola Rosea is a plant best suited in the colder climates of northern Scotland, whose root gives the gin its wonderful floral notes. It is said that 1000+ years ago the Vikings would harvest Rhodiola Rosea from the exposed cliffs to give them strength for their grueling journeys.

On top of everything else, they offer a fully recyclable Rock Rose Gin refill pouch! It helps you save some money and reduce energy in shipping bottles. Refill the beautiful ceramic bottles at home and pop the pouch back in the mail.

Dunnet Bay Distillery is also one the distilleries using their alcohol to produce hand sanitizer for their community in this crazy time. That shows you how much they care about the people around them!
