DREW ESTATE

The Drew Estate story is one of daring, heartbreak & success but, most of all, one of passion for cigars and the country of Nicaragua, where we have been making cigars since 1996.

Jonathan Drew & Marvin Samel are not your average cigar makers, their story does not start in Cuba, or with fathers in the cigar business. It started with a dream, and through their can-do spirit and never-say-die attitude made Drew Estate one of the premier cigar manufacturers on the planet. The two frat brothers from New York started out small…. Small, as in a 16 square foot retail kiosk in the World Trade Center in NYC.

In late 1998, Jonathan Drew moved to Esteli, Nicaragua with the hopes of starting a rebirth in the cigar world. With a handful of rollers and an even smaller handful of money, the story of “That Crazy Gringo” began.

UNDERCROWN MADURO

In early 2009 Drew Estate asked their torcedores to smoke less Liga Privada cigars because they were leaving too few to be exported. This request was met with the disappointment you would expect, but rather than being disgruntled they responded by blending their own signature liga.

Incorporating many of the same rare tobaccos, but of different vintages and primings, the cigar they created was no mere replacement. Rather it is an exceptional smoking experience of uncompromising quality and flavour that deserves to be smoked by all.

It is always the master makers who are heralded, but the reality is that great cigars are the product of many talented people, most of whom toil in factories with no publicity ever. They are the uncelebrated heroes who make all of our lives more pleasurable with the cigars they craft. And therefore, it is with great pleasure that we are now sharing their factory floor creation with you as Undercrown, borne of our worker’s ingenuity, resourcefulness and passion for a great cigar.

Im smoking this cigar as I write this review and this is one iv been looking forward too but Im a little disappointed to be truthful the burn line has been off from the start never really corrected its self the aroma is alot better than the taste , the taste for me is a little bland and it burnt down very fast I thought Id get at least an hour but its more like 35 to 40 minutes I dont think its one Id personally buy again so Im giving it a 3 as I cant give it 2 & a half and its slightly better than a two

Nice cigar constructed well. First part of the first third was medium to full, coffee and earthy notes with a good amount of pepper on the finish. Nice spices come through and the smoke output was incredible. Was like holding a stick of incense! Not one for indoors. The rest of the first third settles down to medium flavours with the pepper and spices fading but the coffee and earth remaining. The second third didnt have much change more of a roasted coffee this time and earthy notes. The finish is quick and pleasant. The final third was more of the same with some coco coming through. A little kick of nicotine but didnt blow my brains out. Overall a nice smoke although the burn was a little wavey. Some subtle sweet and salty notes throughout and not much of a change through the thirds. About a 50min smoke. Worth a try.

In terms of flavour I cannot fault this stick. Lovely peppery yet sweet notes however this was heavily counteracted by an extremely tight draw and one of the most uneven burns Ive ever encountered, which definitely hindered the experience. Judging by the other reviews this may be the result of a dud stick but I can still only award 3 stars.

I brought 2 of these cigars 2 years ago and kept them in my humidor to age. To be honest i was a little worried it might be a little too much for me as i only have a cigar once a month or so as a treat. I decided that tonight was the night i would try one as im travelling to florida in a week and wanted to know if i should buy a box while i am over there. First i just want to say that, as always the cigar was in perfect condition and supplied fast and well packaged as every order always is from cgars. I made myself a freshly ground coffee and made my way to my work shop to enjoy a little me time. I punched the cigar once and took a dry draw and straight away i was blown away with the taste i got. I toasted the foot for as long as i could wait until it was lit and then took my first taste. It blew me away how much flavour the cigar had and how well it smoked. The draw was perfect but I decided to punch another hole in the cigar as i like a lot of smoke. I have seen lots of reviews where people say they taste this and that in cigars and i have never really appreciated this more than i did tonight, it was sweet and creamy and with a very slight hint of pepper in the back of my throat. Im not a fan of peppery cigars but this was enough without being too much, and the sweetness played off the pepper perfectly. It gives off an amazing aroma and tons of smoke from beginning to end. It burnt perfectly all the way to the end. The ash hung on for nearly half the cigar which took at least 35 minutes smoking quite fast. The ash was very clean and white and the craftmanship in this cigar is clear from beginning to end. The cigar lasted me around an hour or so and I can not say enough how impressed i was with this cigar and, at the price on cgars it is my new goto cigar. If you want a powerhouse of flavour without being too strong this is the cigar for you. Thank you cgars and as always i will be using your service many more times to come.

A very pretty cigar. To my taste, very salty and sweet with the odd hint of white pepper. Although on the sweet side, the last third had a nice dose of spice and a little kick of nicotine. Excellent burn throughout. I would recommend you try this one if sweet is your thing. A pleasure that is worth the money.
