The gavel will come down on 150 boxes of rare pre-embargo Havana cigars at C.Gars' sixth auction, which will be held at Boisdale Canary Wharf, London, on July 2. In announcing the auction, managing director, Mitchell Orchant, said the sales would include also "a good and wide selection of much sought-after Davidoff and Dunhill premium cigars, all kept, like the Havanas, in perfect condition". "There is already huge global interest from the world's cigar aficionados and tickets for the auction and pre-auction events are going fast," he said. "Bidders will be flying in from the USA, EU, Japan and China."

According to Brian Ebbesen, former head of cigar auctions at Christie's London, who will again wield the gavel, Lot 250 is the one most likely to attract the highest bidders on the day.

"This is a magnificent Cohiba Humidor handmade from five precious woods for the 2003 Festival del Habanos and containing 50 Cohiba Gran Coronas and signed by Fidel Castro," he said.

"Some aficionados would say it's a snip at its estimated price - £>30,000-£>40,000."
