Diving into the peat

Stalla Dhu Cask Strength Caol Ila 11 Year Old - 60.4% 70cl - This delicious independent bottling from the Islay distillery, Caol Ila, has been bottled at the cask strength of 60.4% abv and aged during 11 years in a Hogshead cask. Silver Award winner at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2021, this release was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020. Each bottling has a unique number, with only 287 bottles being made. We recommend adding a few drops of water to open up the flavours, so we can find more tropical notes followed by a peaty, lingering sweetness.

Bruichladdich Octomore 10.3 - 61.3% 70cl - Distilled in 2013 from the 2012 harvest, the Octomore 10.3 has been brought home by farmer James Brown. Taking on the challenge of growing Islay Barley, he braces the conditions of the wet and wild west coast to combine an exploration of Islay terroir and stratospheric smoke. For the first time, the .3 is matured for six years only in ex-American oak. Salt on the lips and more honey and lemon on the palate, then the peat sweeps in with the oak and heat from the high strength.

Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dha - 70cl 46.3% - This is a lovely release of the first peated whisky in Bunnahabhain's core range. Similar to the limited edition Toiteach that came before it, Toiteach A Dha (which means 'smoky two' in Scots Gaelic) is a peated single malt with a sherry twist. Matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, with a higher sherry influence than Toiteach, this is a delicate mix of smoke and sweet sherry fruit.

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Year Old Heavily Peated Whisky - 70cl 50% - With Bruichladdich always being a distillery that likes to progress and experiment, moving away from the conventional, this Port Charlotte 10 year old has been conceived, distilled, matured and bottled on Islay alone. Bruichladdich has a young team with deep-rooted values, and an ambition to make the ultimate “Islay” Islay whisky. A whisky made by people not software, watched over every day of its maturing life by those who made it, born of a community with a vision and a mission.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan - 70cl 57.1% - Ardbeg Corryvreckan takes its name from the famous whirlpool that lies to the north of Islay, where only the bravest souls dare to venture. Swirling aromas and torrents of deep, peaty, peppery taste lurk beneath the surface of this beautifully balanced dram. Like the whirlpool itself, Corryvreckan is not for the faint-hearted! Awarded The World’s Best Single Malt in 2010 by the World Whiskies Awards.

Stalla Dhu Islay - 70cl 40% - Multiple Silver award winning single malt, including the Silver Outstanding Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2018, this independent bottling of Islay scotch whisky is produced in small batches and comes from an undisclosed distillery. The nose brings aromas of smoke, honey and citrus, with the palate presenting notes of peat, oak and subtle hints of salted caramel and apples. The finish shows maritime salt with lingering hints of sweetness.

Laphroaig Lore - 48% 70cl - Made from some of the most precious whiskies in Laphroaig’s warehouses, their Master Distiller selected spirits from five different cask types, including ex-Bourbon barrels, 19th Century-style quarter casks and large Oloroso sherry butts. Aged anywhere from seven years to 21 years, each spirit brings its own element to the blend. The result is the richest expression of their unforgettable peated whisky.

Port Askaig 8 Year Old - 70cl 45.8% - This whisky takes its name from a small fishing port that resides in the Islay region. An 8 year old single malt Scotch from Islay, bottled for Speciality Drinks' Port Askaig range. Enjoyably smoky and elegant, a neat introduction to their core range. Soft salted caramel brings a sweetness to the palate, with waves of coastal peat smoke showing underneath. Medium finish, with an intense kick of peppercorn.

The Glenturret 10 Year Old Peat Smoke 2020 Maiden Release - 50% 70cl - A sweet and smoky 10 year old single malt from Glenturret, this peated whisky is part of their limited 2020 Maiden Releases. Aromas of lively citrus and mellow peat fill the nose, complemented by notes of vanilla, oak, lemon, orange and smouldering embers on the palate. Unlike most every other distillery out there, Glenturret claims to be the only one left that still hand-mashes. (Its motto: “By hand and by heart.”)

Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey - 40% 70cl - This is a unique and lovely malty whiskey with Cooley's signature honey and pear notes as well as a beautiful waft of smoke.  Since it was released in the late 1990s, it has won over many fans of peated Scotch whiskies such as Laphroaig and Ardbeg. Yet Connemara still has a definite Irish character.
Winner of four different gold medals, with one of them being the International Wine & Spirits Competition Gold Medal in 2010.
