Different Cigar Cutter Styles

Guillotine Cutter

This cutter makes for a Straight cut to your cigar. The guillotine cutter is very easy to use while just simply slicing the cap of the cigar to give an easy clean cut.
Precision is not exactly crucial with this cutter as if you cut too little off you can easily put this right by trimming of more.

The problem however is from cutting off too much, as then you will find your draw being too airy and will become very hot which disrupts the taste and will also cause the wrapper to unwind and flake off. Another thing to make sure is that your guillotine cutter is sharp before using it as if the blade becomes dull it will drag and pull, tearing into the cigar instead of slicing it.

V-Cutter

This V cutter provides a deep wedge-shaped cut in the cigar's cap. Achieving the proper cut using this does require much more detailed attention but once mastered it will leave you with a more controlled draw and a cleaner cut.

To use this cutter your insert the cap of the cigar into the opening and using your dominant thumb and middle finger press the blade firmly down which will create the wedge in your cigar. This cut minimizes the risk of an unravelling cigar.

As the wedge is a smaller cut, then the straight cut, it means the draw you would get from this is much less which some smokers like and others do not.

Cigar Scissors

One of the oldest tools for cutting cigars are the cigar scissors which are made from high-grade steel so they cut more efficiently.

They can be harder to master as they require a steady hand but the cutting action is very similar to the Guillotine cutter, giving you a straight cut.

Punch Cutter

This cutter works by simply punching a small hole in the very top which creates a tight draw and little possibility of flaking.

This cut however will only work on the round capped cigars and does work best on the large ring gauges.

Punch cutters are often attached to a keychain and are small which makes them handy and a popular choice for travelling.
