Curivari Buenaventura Picadores - Reviews By Josh

Tradition and authenticity run deep in both Curivari as a boutique brand and for their cigars. Instead of flashy sales pitches and even flashier cigar bands, the reclusive Curivari let their cigars do all the talking for them. Relying on word of mouth, cigars like the Buenaventura Picadores are classical and eloquent with a simple and just as eloquent band. A classical approach to the cigar blend, reminiscent of pre-embargo Cuban cigars.

Cuban soul without Cuban prices

Created by Andreas Throuvalas, a former European cigar retailer based in Greece. Very little is known about the Curivari cigars, even from their emergence on the European market in 2003 (then the U.S. in 2010) with today’s subject of choice, The Buenaventura (meaning good fortune or good luck depending on your translation) making its debut in 2012.

Being Nicaraguan puros the Buenaventura line of cigars consist of a blend of Cuban-seed tobaccos from Condega, Esteli and Jalapa all combined wonderfully to give that Cuban feel without that Cuban price tag. With the use of Cuban-seed tobaccos, Curivari strives to keep the soul of pre-embargo Cuban cigars alive by being highly accessible to all levels of cigar lovers and aficionados worldwide.

Buenaventura Picadores Review

Being budget friendly is great but is the Buenaventura Picadores any good?

Absolutely! It’s built solidly and delivers a great flavour profile - complex enough to be interesting, yet balanced enough to remain comfortable and enjoyable throughout. Starting with notes of smooth cream, earth, oak and undertones of black pepper that slowly become more prominent in the latter parts, giving some vigorous spice towards the end. Combined with a smooth draw and a medium-full strength creating a consistent and relaxing smoke.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a cigar that is a reliable every day smoke that doesn’t break the bank, the Curivari Buenaventura Picadores takes a podium place for me. If the Picadores is not your preferred Vitola then no need to worry. The Buenaventura line gives you the choice of the BV Mini, BV 500, BV 600 and now the Favouritos (including a Connecticut, Maduro and Natural version to choose from) to satisfy any and all cigar aficionados out there.
