COHIBA

Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos.

It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret, but now world famous, El LLaguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.

Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market.

The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba - the earliest known form of a Habano.

The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Uniquely amongst Habanos up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves , the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an additional fermentation in barrels. This unique process produces a special aroma and flavour you will only find in Cohiba.

LINEA 1492 - SIGLO II

The Cohiba Línea 1492 range was first announced at a reception at the Captain General's Palace in Havana on 4th November 1992, which took place during a Festival held to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus.

The Linea 1492, originally consisting of five sizes - Siglo I, II, III, IV and V before the VI was introduced in 2002, were expressly introduced to mark Columbus's 500th Anniversary and each Siglo (which means 'Century' in Spanish) commemorates one the five subsequent centuries.

The Linea 1492 is classified as medium flavoured and remains the lightest flavoured line of Cohibas.

Please note: Matches not included.

Tasting Notes

Though this Petit Corona format resembles those of its kind it has it's own character. With greater lightness, freshness and richness of flavours this will definitely tempt the nature of those who find Cohibas too strong.

92 / 100

"An undercurrent of ground pepper adds some piquancy to this petit corona, which draws well but has a slightly uneven burn. Notes of leather and orange peel gain intensity as the cigar progresses..."

Cohiba siglo II has a nicely applied triple cap nice firm pack and a gorgeous foot as for the wrapper it is a lovely milk chocolate, a little toothy and the band is applied perfectly, the aroma is sweet hay and coco once I'd cut the cap off the stick I took a pre light draw the cigar had a beautiful peppery taste with a little spice also a sight ceder and honey mixing in. Once I toasted the cigar the aroma is a nice ceder as for the first enital taste notes there's a mild coffee mixed with ceder note there's also a slight paper taste on the finish and a subtle hint of coco. 27 mins in entering the second third lots of rich smoke out put flavour wise a nice milk chocolate and a creamy notes with that coffee and ceder being pushed back almost unnoticeable now also mixed in a sweet honey on the draw and the finish that of which is a little short as for the ash it's a bit flaky but fell off in a nice solid chunk. 40 min in entering the final third burns a little wonky but there's no need to touch up just yet flavour wise the coco and coffee has now mixed together to make a mocha flavour where as the two note stuck out alone in the pervious thirds there's still a nice cream to that coats the pallet also that pepper spice is coming back. overall I finished the stick at 1hr 5mins it's a shame the burn time wasn't longer as I loved the cream and coco very dessert like notes similar to the siglo I id say this stick is a medium to full and as far as I could tell no strength too it which I love and for the price a lovely smoke.

This was my first time smoking a Siglo 2 an i have to say i am impressed, both with the burn quality and the taste. They have a very easy draw and and a good even burn to them. Taste wise, to start it is rather leathery but towards the middle and end of the cigar the a really nice spice comes through. Considering I am usually quite a fast smoker, i felt the need to keep this cigar going for a while and it ended up lasting me around an hour. I brought a single to see what they were like and have since gone on to buy them in a larger number to keep in the humidor. Overall a fine evening smoke and perfect for after a good meal.

This is a really nice cigar, with sophisticated flavours, a little spicy towards the end also burnt really nice and even. A really enjoyable cigar to have after a meal in the evening.

My personal review of the Cohiba Siglo I small (Mareva) cigar. This is without dought the finest and tastiest small cigar you can buy, an excellent build with the iconic Cohiba band, a perfect draw and burn, medium strength with lots of almost perfumed citrus and pepper flavour, this little cigar produces copious amounts of smoke for it's size and the aroma is fabulous, everywhere I have gone outside I have had lots of comments from guys asking me what I am smoking For a 40 minutes or so smoke you cannot beat this cigar and of cause it's a Cohiba the flagship of the Habanos. A small cigar with a big kick
