Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos.

It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret, but now world famous, El LLaguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.

Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market.

The name is an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first saw being smoked by the original inhabitants of Cuba - the earliest known form of a Habano.

The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Uniquely amongst Habanos up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves , the seco, ligero and the rare medio tiempo, undergo an additional fermentation in barrels. This unique process produces a special aroma and flavour you will only find in Cohiba.

Tasting Notes

Though this Mareva format resembles those of it's kind it has it's own character. With greater lightness, freshness and richness of flavours this will definately tempt the nature of those who find Cohibas too strong.

A very enjoyable flavour with a Moist and smooth flavour throughout the whole burn. A fine cigar to sit back and relax with, Nile enjoying an after meal fine spirit or coffee. Be sure to have time to spare as with near 45- 50 minutes burn time, its one cigar that will let you unwind and enjoy the moment.

My first of the Cohiba range. Wasnt too impressed but wasnt a total let down either. Started off mild, smooth, creamy but also very sweet. A third of the way in, I could taste nuts and I was hit with a pepper bomb in my mouth which was almost unbearable but as quick as it happened, it was gone and soon mellowed out again. Either that or my taste buds died? At the end of it I was left with the taste of how the pages of an old library book smell... If youve ever wanted to eat that smell, this is the cigar for you! Not a bad cigar but not a great one either. I really dont think its worth the money. Youll definitely be paying more for the label than you will the cigar.

Bit of a newbie cigar smoker here. This was my first Cohiba cigar ever. I did not know what to expect. At first I was tiny bit disappointed with the lack of character, but having gone through the first inch, the flavours have really picked up. I, probably had it too hot to start with (even though I was taking my time). Once I slowed right down, chocolate flavour hit me. It was absolutely beautiful. Draw improved too. I think this cigar must be enjoyed slowly. Eventually, it took me approx. 1 hour 20minutes... which was 1:20 of sheer pleasure.

Im down to the last 1.5 inched of my first siglo II. It is an amazing smoke! Light and creamy from the start, it has lovely cedar notes to begin with, with just a hint of honey and vanilla in the second third. A little pepper coming through in the final third makes for a nice finish. The construction was impeccable. A smooth, oily surface without a flaw. It had a slightly spicy smell. I cut it easily with my cutter and was pleased to discover that it had a good draw, not too tight and not too loose. It lit easily with a match and immediately gave off plenty of nice thick smoke. So far, it has burned perfectly and the draw has been perfect (for me). A sweet, spicy aroma hanging in my living room from the smoke only adds to the overall enjoyment. Move over Punch coronations, this is my new favourite mareva! Im burning my fingers now and I dont want to put it out! Im so glad I have more! This was the first Cohiba that Ive smoked which really lived up to the hype/price tag! I cannot recommend them highly enough!

This for me, is one of my top 5 cigars. Full of cedar and creamy leather with a perfect amount of spice. The halfway point and beyond is where these flavours intensify and become even more delightful. About an hour, to an hour fifteen smoking time, so more suited to those quiet moments and relaxation periods we all need. A dream from start to finish. Highly recommend.
