Thanks MO!!!! I'm watching Yolanda now. Fascinating! Unfortunately, the refresh rate of the web cam doesn't capture the graceful intricacy of Yolanda's hands while rolling. Thank you very much for giving me a glimpse into the world of Havana Torcedoras!!!!!
QUESTIONS
Q. How much influence does the wrapper on a Havana cigar have on the overall flavour of the cigar?
Yolanda A: Absolutely no influence whatsoever Q. Is the Tobacco you are using today Cuban? Yolanda A: Yes of course Q. Do the Tobacco rollers in the Cuban factories know the brand of cigar they are making?
Yolanda A: Absolutely, they are given the blend of leaves and told for example that they are making Montecristo No. 4 today. Q. What are the main reasons for a bad draw on a Havana cigar?
Yolanda A: The main reason is simply the inexperience of the roller. I have been rolling Havana cigars for 36 years and I hope all my cigars have perfect construction! Q. How does a cigar roller in a factory in Cuba get permission to roll and sell cigars at a Hotel in Cuba? Who sets the price that they charge for their cigars? Yolanda A: Cigar rollers are either employed by the factory or by the hotel. The cigar rollers do not work for themselves and do not keep the money for the cigars that are sold, this goes directly to the factory, the shop or the hotel. Q. Will you use a press for the cigars you are rolling today? Yolanda A: No they are made by hand and no press is needed. Q. How long does it take to roll a cigar? Yolanda A. 4 minutes
