Chinese bidder takes the Gold in pre-Olympics auction

Aged & Rare cigar auctions are hosted by C.Gars Ltd frequently, our sixth auction took place in London on July 2nd 2012. The auction featured a Cohiba humidor signed by the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, unfortunately though this superb piece was left unclaimed. Other lots were sold to various bidders but the gold medal went to a Chinese cigar aficionado who was determined to take home the prizes.

Chinese bidder takes the Gold in pre-Olympics auction

'It was a close race between three well-heeled contestants who had spent years training in the enjoyment of fine Havanas,' said Mitchell Orchant, managing director, C.Gars Ltd, 'but when the gavel finally went down at our pre-Olympics auction at Boisdale Canary Wharf in London, it was a cigar smoker from China who took the Gold.

'The Silver went to an aficionado from Hong Kong, who was closely followed by a smoker-friendly Brit from the UK who collected the Bronze.

'Unlike the the contestants in the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics, a short limo ride away from the auction venue, our three medalists prefer to remain anonymous - and wreathed in tobacco smoke rather than laurel leaves.'

C.Gars Ltd's sixth Cigar Auction took place at Boisdale Canary Wharf's on July 2, 2012 and was attended by about one hundred cigar aficionados and collectors from around the world.

'Alas, the Cohiba humidor handmade from five precious woods for the 2003 Festival del Habanos and containing 50 Cohiba Gran Coronas and signed by Fidel Castro didn't fetch it's asking price of £30,000-£40,000,' said Orchant. 'So that event was disqualified.'
