In 1863, Frederick Charatan, a Russian / Jewish immigrant, opened a shop in Mansell Street in London, where he began to carve Meerschaum pipes. These pipes became very popular and thus Charatan had to move premises to Prescot Street just around the corner. Here he began to make briar pipes which made the name famous the world over.
Charatan was the first brand to make entirely hand-made briars from the rough block to the finished pipe including the stems.
Made in the traditional way using only the finest seasoned Mediterranean briar and quality ebonite mouthpieces.
The Mayfair range come in a beautiful light brown stain that enhances the carefully selected grain, available in a plethora of classic shapes and a price tag that isn’t going to break the bank, the Charatan pipes are a must for any pipe lover.
