Barton 1792 Distillery

Barton 1792 Distillery

This distillery has been producing some of the best whiskey out there. Sitting right in the middle of bourbon country, you will be getting a true taste of what bourbon should be. Established in 1879, continues today as the oldest fully operating distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. The distillery is spread across 196 acres housing 51 different buildings, 29 of which are huge barrel houses. Those barrels houses hold upwards of 2 million barrels of bourbon! The whiskey was formerly known as Ridgewood Reserve 1792 and 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, named in honor of the year Kentucky became part of the United States. Since 2009 the distillery has been owned by the Sazerac company.

The whiskey itself has taken many awards, in particular the 2020 World Whisky of the Year from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. Leaning more towards the higher, more sophisticated bourbon market shouldn’t scare anyone off, it is accessible to any level of drinker. 1792 Small Batch is their core bottling, and uses the signature high rye recipe that gives it a rough edged bold and smooth flavour profile! In addition to the Small Batch bottling, 1792 have currently bottled seven different limited special expressions. All of which have been crafted with a ton of heart and dedication by their master distiller to produce truly unique expressions with a rich flavour profile. These expressions include: Sweet Wheat, Aged Twelve Years, High Rye, Single Barrel, Full Proof, Bottled in Bond, and Port Finish.

If you are ever in the Bardstown, Kentucky neighbourhood and looking for fun things to do, the distillery offers tours. Unlike, most distillery tours these days, all of Barton 1792’s tours are free! You will get a chance to learn all the history behind the distillery, process, and how American bourbon came to be.

Until then, please have a look at two of the distillery’s bottlings on our site:

1792 Small Batch: A wonderful face off between the sweet and the spice in this! Quite a full mouth feel of rye spice, bringing along that almost chewy vanilla and sweet caramel flavours. Click here to order

1792 Single Barrel: On a very similar flavour profile to the standard bottling. The single barrel comes across slightly dried and a bit lighter, but in a very refreshing way. Click here to order
