    H. UPMANN

    H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands in existence, dating back to the 1840s. It was started when Herman Upmann quit his job as a banker in the early 1840’s and went about opening up a branch office in Havana. Upmann quickly realised that he could begin a commercial endeavour in the industry and in 1844 he made the bold investment of a cigar factory and the H. Upmann brand was officially launched.

Later on in 1922, both the Upmann bank and the cigar business went bankrupt and they had to sell up to J. Frankau & Co., a British firm who continued the production of the cigars up until 1935 at which point the brand was sold on again to the recently established Menendez y Garcia Co., the makers of the famous Montecristo cigar. The new owners continued the production of H. Upmann cigars up until the nationalisation of the tobacco industry after the Cuban revolution.

    H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and all H. Upmann sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

SIR WINSTON #5 Best Cigar of 2018 - Cigar Aficionado

A magnificent churchill that, when purchased as one, comes in a beautiful varnished box, a fact that does not escape the manufacturers, who put every effort into making cigars that live up to their presentation for connoisseurs.

  • Generous and strong, it has all the virtues of the Habano with pedigree. Excellent draw and burn. Very smooth and consistent.

"Sweet and floral first puffs lead to an elegant procession of caramel, vanilla honey and pistachio notes. Complex with an even draw and burn...."

Reviews

Customers say
Customers generally find the H. Upmann Sir Winston to be a pleasant and often excellent Churchill-sized cigar, frequently praised for its smooth, developing flavor and good construction. However, a notable minority of reviewers found it to be somewhat one-dimensional or bland, preferring a richer, stronger profile.
Ideal for those who appreciate a medium-bodied Churchill with evolving flavors and a smooth smoking experience, but be aware that some find its profile too light or subtle.

This is the best churchill sized cigar I have ever had. It is priced as a double corona, but it is well worth the money. The cigar begins medium strength, gradually intensifies, and adds more and more flavor along the way. written by CDR

A really pleasant Churchill, with medium flavor, but really smooty. I was happy to find that it did not have the flatness and bit of the Upmann corona. I would rank this a tad behind the Punch Churchill, but close. written by SLH

A very fine smoke -pleasant flavors, good draw. Perhaps not the richest of cigars, but first class nonetheless. written by rubyz

This is not the Churchill you would expect from R&J, but a nice effort nonetheless. Mild at first, then nicely developing to full medium. Definite notes of wood and leather tightly packed inside an excellent wrapper. Decent draw and good construction. written by Mihai

Not the richest tasting Churchill out there but a treat nonetheless. Some inconsistency in the draw. The good ones are awesome! written by JM USA
