Silk Cut is a British Cigarette and was launched in 1964.

Silk Cut cigarettes contained approximately 75% tobacco, the rest of the filling being Cytrel, a cellulose-based tobacco substitute. Today the Cytrel has been removed, making the cigarette completely additive-free.

The brand increased in popularity around the 70s and 80s as customers became more aware of the dangers of smoking and therefore looked for a brand containing less tar. At 5 mg tar, Silk Cut contained less than half of the tar content of its competitors.
