San Cristobal de la Habana was the original name of Havana, Cuba's capital city, when it was founded in 1519; San Cristobal (St Christopher) in honour of the Saint of the day where the city was founded, and La Habana after an Indian name for the site.

San Cristobal de la Habana cigars were introduced in 1999 on the threshold of the new Millennium as a tribute to the city's long history.

At first the range comprised just four vitolas, each names after one of the fortresses built from the 16th to the 18th Centuries that defended Havana when it was the hub of Spain's American empire. These are: El Morro, La Fuerza, La Punta and El Principe.

Tasting Notes

A long robusto and in fact new vitola which was introduced to the San Cristobal range. This beefy cigar is full bodied and medium to full strength. Spicy notes throughout and multi layered.

Characteristic colorado maduro wrappers and good, firm construction. Good spicy aroma.

89 / 100

"...Subtly pressed with a gleaming wrapper. The draw and burn are a bit inconsistent, but medium-bodied notes of earth, leather and brown sugar remain steady..."

Reviewed by Don Simpson - January 2002 Upon inspection the cigars were of fair construction, with sharp veins and a smooth satin finish. They were medium dark with a poorly applied cap. The first cigar lasted approximately 40 minutes and I smoked it after dinner. The next two cigars were smoked at about the same time within the following 3 days. The time was about the same for all three cigars. The carbon ring was not consistent and varied in definition and color. It had a gray, firm ash, held tight by the sharp burned vein in the wrapper. My first impression of the white smoke was sweet and light, but the blue smoke was warm and creamy, and tasted young and needed more time to enrich. The draw was easy but again the smoke was warm with hot spots and soft spots through out the shaft of the cigar. The wrapper already had begun to unravel and was starting to canoe. All three cigars had this same trait! At first the taste of earth was very prevalent and turned 'dirt' like very quick. As the cigar continued to unravel, a prominent tobacco/burnt chocolate notes appeared. It was warm and continued to change slightly. Although it was not deeply complex the flavors continue to change slightly. I noticed slight nut with wood undertones; burnt coca bean and a slight spicy white pepper. The cigar then powered into strong balsa wood flavors and soured with a very dry finish. The true finish was less than pleasurable as the bitter - sour taste was lingering in my mouth for more than 20 minutes. My overall impression is the cigar is young, needs some help in the blending, and quite surely on the construction. I would not probably purchase this smoke in the future, but age will help somewhat. Thank you for the opportunity to give my opinions on these cigars.

Perhaps I scored an uncommonly good box of these cigars, but the ones Ive smoked have been utterly fantastic! Everything is like best is embodied in this cigar - "classic" Cuban nuttiness, a great draw, and good solid ash. For the price, I think its a great deal! written by MK USA

I purchased a box this summer from the Partagas factory in Havana. The box was stamped '04. I think these cigars are an absolute joy to smoke. Every stogie so far has been consistent in terms of draw, flavour, construction and burn. They can only improve better with age seeing as i have smoked one third of them already! Wish i had bought two boxes!! written by Jared

Similar to the el Morro. Not quite as complex or flavorful, but with a slightly easier draw. Still a little tight, though. Nice looking cigar. Earthy and floral. written by The Mantis

This smoke was rich, and spicy, with a rather short finish. The wrapper was a nice oily dark brown. The only problem was a slightly uneven burn, but other than that a truely good smoke. written by Michael
