CIGAR JOURNAL RATED 95
Length: 4 7/8" Ring Gauge: 50 Packaging: Box of 25
The Latin Regius denotes of a ‘King’. We present you a regal smoking experience: to enjoy a hand-made King of Cigars.
Gaius Petronius Arbiter (AD27) was a Roman writer and courtier for Emperor Nero who devoted himself to a life of pleasure. Yet far from being an ordinary, vulgar profligate, he became known as an accomplished voluptuary.
Showing capacity for outrageous indulgence, he was looked upon by Nero to be the absolute authority on questions of taste (arbiter elegantiae), especially with the science of alchemy.
In his memory the superb brand of cigars ‘Regius’ was created. The alchemy of cultivating and blending the finest aged tobacco to achieve the best possible taste, an even burning quality and elegant aromas.
We invite you to be arbiter elegantiae, the judge of elegance, of the beautifully hand crafted and flavoursome creations that are Regius Cigars.
This cigar is a more full-bodied creation and is consistent with being the preferred vitola of true cigar aficionados. The taste is perfectly smooth and the smoke lingers on the palate creating a beautiful, rich aftertaste.
Full to medium body without too huge a nicotine hit, but I'd still suggest it as an evening smoke or when out walking the dogs. Probably a good 45 minutes or more smoke. Nice flavour with a hint of marzipan plus some floral undertones, not too peppery. Find it goes well with a hoppy ale such as Brewdog Punk IPA. Draw is only slightly tight but a good bit of smoke results; you do though need to work with the cigar else it will go out. I found two light puffs per draw. Character does not change much through the session, it's pleasant without any new surprises.
Ash is a dark grey and holds reasonably well, there is a good even burn throughout. Construction of the cigar is firm with the wrapper being slightly dark in colour and smooth with light veining.
These have been sitting in the humidor for a good six months, this has mellowed the initial ammonia hint that I was getting. For their size and strength, I think they are very good value. Not my go to Nicaragua cigar, I'm a fan of Drew Estate, but value for money I think they are hard to beat.
