PARTAGAS
If there is one building in Havana that excites cigar lovers above all others it is the old Partagas factory. You can find it at No. 520 Industria Street, just behind the Capitol building, in the heart of the city.
The factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and was still operational until just a few years ago. It is now closed with plans to transform it into a cigar museum well under way. The Partagas shop on the ground floor however, remains open and is well worth a visit.
A Partagas is immediately recognisable by its deep, earthy flavour. The character of its blend springs from a selection of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and chosen for their unmistakable richness of flavour and aroma.
Partagas come in a wide array of shapes and sizes notably the Lusitania and the 8-9-8, a cigar that is named after the way it is arranged in its box.
But perhaps the best known of all Partagas is the Serie D No.4, the robusto size that formed part of the legendary Partagas alphabet series that dates back to the 1930s. In 2005 a Pirámide, the Partagas Serie P No.2, was added to the range, which has fast become the cigar of choice amongst lovers of full-flavoured Havanas. In 2011 the Serie D No.5 and the heavy ring gauge Serie E No.2 extended the alphabet series once again. 2014 saw the most recent addition to the range when the diminutive D.6 was added.
All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.
SERIE E NO. 2 GRAN RESERVA COSECHA 2015 - ONLY 5,000 BOXES WORLDWIDE!
The term Gran Reserva applies only to Habanos whose fillers, binders and wrappers have all been aged for at
least 5 years prior to rolling. In addition, only the “best of the best” leaves from Vuelta Abajo, the finest tobacco growing zone in Cuba and arguably the world, are chosen to undergo the lengthy ageing process to ensure that the final product when smoked will offer a unique balanced blend of rich flavours and mature aromas.
The iconic Cohiba Siglo VI was the first cigar presented as a Gran Reserva in 2009 and was rolled using tobaccos harvested several years previous (Cosecha 2003). The iconic Montecristo No. 2 vitola followed in 2011 (Cosecha 2005) and a couple of years later the Partagas Lusitania (Cosecha 2007). We have also welcomed to the family since then the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill (Cosecha 2009), H.Upmann Sir Winston (Cosecha 2011) and Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona in 2019.
The latest introduction to the family is the Partagas Serie E No.2 Gran Reserva (Cosecha 2015) and like its
illustrious predecessors are presented in elegant lacquered boxes which hold 15 double banded cigars.
Each box is numbered and only 5,000 boxes (75,000 cigars) are produced in total for the global market.
The wide gauge of the Serie E No. 2 allows for the classic blend of Partagas to be expressed in full with
voluminous and rich smoke delivered to the palate that has been further rounded and refined by the extended bale ageing of the tobacco leaves, a signature of all Habanos Gran Reservas.
