Olivar cigars are blended to deliver full body taste while maintaining an unparalleled smoothness.

A little bit of background to Oliva...

The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

As with so many cigar stories, Gilberto Oliva Sr. faced a difficult road. He left his native Cuba in 1964, and eventually started working for the Plasencia family in Honduras. In 1995 he and his son Gilberto Jr. created a cigar within Plasencia’s factory called Gilberto Oliva. A year later, they set out to open a factory of their own, and shortened their brand name to Oliva.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

Tasting Notes

This flavorful blend exhibits complex tobacco with rich coffee and dark chocolate tones. A subtle and well balanced spice is present throughout.

For a Madura robusto this was actually a decidedly mild and easygoing smoke. Leathery and spicy at first, but as it developed more complex flavours were evident and it became much sweeter with notes of baked cookie, coffee and cedar. Altogether a pleasant 45-50 minute Saturday afternoon treat. It was a nice addition as the mystery cigar in the May subscription box which I would definitely consider buying more of and I can certainly recommend it as a good all round value for money cigar.

I got one of these in my first subscription box. It was the mystery cigar and what a pleasure it was I will certainly by ordering some when they are back in stock. This was my first Oliva, and as i am partial to maduros, I was always going to be critical. Nice draw with rich mouthfuls of smoke. Quite spicy When exhaled through the nose. Held its ash well and smoked right down to the last inch with chocolatey spicy flavours.

Dont smoke cigars to regularly like I used to but have started to find the time to enjoy them again and thought I would try this out and really enjoyed it. I thought it was smooth through out and the burn was great. I found it woody and a bit of leather at first but it was most enjoyable in the second third where I got coffee and a nice hit of liquorice. I would buy again

I am a big fan of the Oliva brand. But if Im honest was a bit disappointed with the Maduro robusto. It has a perfect burn and ash holding but found the taste very one dimensional pleasant but not as good as others for example the Oliva aged Cameroon. Or the belicosso. Both are favourites of mine. This is not taking away from the fact this is good cigar But just not as Brilliant as others in the range. and just my opinion.

I enjoyed this cigar, leather was certainly the most prominent flavour for me. In the second third I did get small choc and some coffee. I wish that lasted longer but it was mostly leather. Not my favourite but I enjoyed the smoke. I have 2 more so will leave them longer. Minimal strength which is good as I'm a lightweight and have 2 - 3 cigars a year when the mood takes me. Nicaraguan tobacco is my preference so far to be honest. Looking forward to trying the V I have resting up. Can see why these are top rated. Only had to relight once bt that was probably me though. Found 1 toke every 30 second was good.
