This cigar is the result of collaboration between Mitchell Orchant, Tor Imports and Oliva to produce a uniquely blended Oliva cigar tailored to meet Mitchell’s high standards and the UK cigar smokers palate; all at affordable prices!

You cannot get any better than Oliva at the moment! Look at the high profile awards that they have collected in the last 3 months:-

- Oliva V Melanio Figuarado just been awarded the No1 Cigar of the Year by the Cigar Aficionado blind test panel.
- The Oliva V Melanio Double Toro was ranked number 5 cigar of 2014 by the Cigar Journal.
- Oliva were presented with the UK Cigar Producer of the Year in 2014 by the Spectator Cigar Awards in November in London.

Mitchell underwent a rigorous sampling exercise in the summer of 2014 to carefully select the blend and create a stylish design using the award winning Serie V Melanio as his inspiration.

The cigars are boxed in 10’s and blend consists of an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, with a Nicaraguan filler and binder.

A little bit of background to Oliva...

The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

As with so many cigar stories, Gilberto Oliva Sr. faced a difficult road. He left his native Cuba in 1964, and eventually started working for the Plasencia family in Honduras. In 1995 he and his son Gilberto Jr. created a cigar within Plasencia’s factory called Gilberto Oliva. A year later, they set out to open a factory of their own, and shortened their brand name to Oliva.

Business was tough in those days, and Oliva struggled. Faced with dwindling reserves of cash, in a cost-cutting move they turned to Gilberto Sr.’s robust stocks of Nicaraguan tobacco, which changed the flavour profile of Oliva cigars at a time when the interest in Nicaraguan flavour was increasing.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

This cigar was a frequent humidor filler 5 years ago, back then 7.99 great value stick and I would say still is. Thought to return and see how my palate as developed. Unlike many other cigars Ive revisited I found I still enjoyed this, I find this cigar to be medium strength then picking up slightly half way, flavours are distinct but changes little throughout the smoke, with spice notes especially at beginning, notes of coffee, leather and woodiness are also experienced. Construction is great and I only had one this time but I recall them being very consistent. I recommend.... Its very good cigar especially on a price point 4/5 stars.

Quite simply this is an excellent cigar that knocks some of the more expensive Havana cigars of the same ilk into a cocked hat! Very impressed! Whats not to like!

Wonderful just wonderful. Had mine as a morning smoke with a coffee, a little hot & spicy for the first inch then smoothed out to woodiness with mild leather notes & some nutty flavors coming into play also. I was pleasantly surprised & I will be buying more to put into the rotation. A happy contented morning was had with this stick before getting on with the days work, what more do you want.

Too hot and peppery for me. I punched a hole as gentle as I could and the smoking end started to peel. The first third was like eating a chilli 🌶 and went out on me. However the rest smoked perfectly and calmed down on the pepper and hotness. Just my opinion really. If you like pepper Im sure its great.

Just enjoyed one of these with a nice cold IPA, it was an excellent complement. Nice light-medium flavours, decent strength, and lots of smoke. Im an amateur cigar smoker but I could taste chocolate for the first half an inch or so, after that just a pleasant tobacco taste with hints of spice. Ill stop trying to describe it now before I embarrass myself; suffice it to say that I enjoyed this one a lot and Ill be ordering more!
