I picked a couple of Montecristo Shorts expecting that classic Montecristo refinement in a quick, convenient format—but this one missed the mark for me. From the first light, the flavor came across a bit harsh, with a sharp edge that never really mellowed out. I was hoping for that creamy smoothness and balance Montecristo is known for, but instead, it leaned bitter and slightly acrid, even when I slowed down my draw.
About halfway through, things went further downhill as the wrapper started to unravel. ItÂ’s frustrating when construction issues interrupt what little enjoyment youÂ’re getting, especially from a brand with such a strong reputation. I tried to nurse it along, but the burn became uneven and the draw tightened up, making it more of a chore than a pleasure to finish.
To be fair, the aroma had a pleasant woody note and there were glimpses of the signature Montecristo earthiness underneath the rough exterior—but they were fleeting. Overall, this cigar felt rushed and unrefined compared to their larger formats. Maybe I just got a bad stick, but for me, the Montecristo Shorts didn’t live up to the name. I’d reach for something else next time when I want a quick smoke.
