Montecristo is the best known and probably most appreciated brand of Habanos throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from the hero of Alexandre Dumas' famous novel 'The Count of Montecristo,' which was a firm favourite when read by the Lector to the Torcedores (cigar makers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast's needs.

The Montecristo Churchill is the second release from the exciting new concept from Habanos s.a: AÑEJADOS or Aged (Romeo y Julieta Piramides being the first).

Not only is the vitola new to the brand, measuring 7“ (178mm) x 47 ring gauge, the “Churchill” size cigars have been box aged for between 5 to 8 years in the perfect humidity conditions of Cuba. This will afford the cigars a mellower, more refined taste as the blend of the leaves meld together over time realising their full potential.

The cigars are presented in dressed boxes of 25 and carry a second band to identify that they are AÑEJADOS. There is also a sticker on the box lid and like other Habanos Specialities, supply is limited to the quantity initially laid down to age.

Tasting Notes

91 / 100

"...With a picture-perfect burn, this Churchill starts out floral and bready before exhibiting delicate notes of honeyed wood and earth. Nuanced and refined..."

The Montecristo Churchill Anejados is a wonderful addition to the family. Many of us started with the number four in our late teens and remember opening our first box with its wonderful intoxicating aromas. After smoking this stick, all of the initial feelings of how could anyone deny another of the privilege of enjoying this, and I’m not going to deny myself too long before the next…. By ageing these sticks the blend is softened and rounded, starting almost bland with just a little subtle grassy wood, with the wonderful sweet woods of the blend developing with a little sweet spice before finishing with a lovely lingering woody very sweet tobacco on the palate. I smoked the first of these sticks on the patio outside the pub in the park, where many remarked about the wonderful aromas, the stick had perfect construction and drew, with the ash sticking for more than an inch before I used the ashtray each time, finishing with the butt being smoked from the pin of the perfect draw tool, which only served this purpose here. Summary: This isn’t a wonderfully complex cigar that one is going to age and sample over the decades, this is a ready to smoke wonderfully aged Montecristo, that tells you why you should be using your humidor more to really get the best out of each line and if like me, are far from a teenager anymore, then it could bring back a lot of nostalgia. Ill definitely be buying more....

Excellent! A very smooth and mild smoke, good draw, went well with a nice bottle of red wine and took a good hour and a half to smoke - time well spent! Can't wait to try the other cigars in my Anejados sampler!

I recently purchased this as a "taster" to see if I would like it. Fast receipt of my order meant this was achieved quickly over the w/end. The "draw" was very even throughout and consistent which was good. Smoking time was also impressive (about an hour). The medium strength suited my taste well and was made even better by the inclusion of a "Jamesons" to enjoy. Overall a very good Montecristo.
