Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 is an intense and complex whisky from Campbeltown, bottled at cask strength and with a high phenolic content (PPM) that gives it a distinctive smoke profile.
This release is part of Glengyle Distillery’s experimental series exploring the depth of their smoky spirits.
The whisky produced at Glengyle is named Kilkerran – a historic name for Campbeltown – as the name “Glengyle” was already registered as a blended whisky brand. Kilkerran whiskies are known for their complex and balanced character, with distinct maritime and slightly smoky notes typical of the Campbeltown style.
The Kilkerran range ranges from classic 12-year-old single malts to experimental releases such as Heavily Peated, which has attracted great interest from peat lovers and collectors worldwide. The production is artisanal with traditional methods and long fermentation times, which gives the whisky its depth and complexity.
With its rebirth, Glengyle Distillery has helped to strengthen Campbeltown’s reputation as one of the great whisky regions in Scotland – and Kilkerran stands today as a testament to the dedication, history and passion for single malt whisky.
Nose: Creamy butterscotch and caramel notes in the beginning, with the development of notes of rye bread and tea leaf.
Palate: A familiar oiliness and smokiness is introduced on the palate, with notes of Iberico ham and brandy snaps.
Finish: A gentle finish, there are notes of lemon sherbet, honeycomb and mint, with the peat smoke carrying through to the finish.
