A Spanish businessman named Juan Lopez Diaz founded his brand in the 1870's.

Although little known around the world today, Juan Lopez has always attracted a following amongst aficionados of Habanos particularly for the Seleccion No. 1 and, most notably, for the Seleccion No. 2 sizes.

The range offers a consistent medium to full flavour based on a rich blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone and consist of long filler leaves.

Nice wrapper, great taste, excellent draw! Not to be underestimated. Fantastic flavour, this is a real gem of a cigar.

I found this one quite unexciting. Mild but with no real flavour until the final third, which was lasted for a couple of draws. Burn was uneven. Unpleasant aftertaste. Far better cigars can be had for the money.

Both cigars were soft and easily squashed. Not pleased Flavour OK Size OK Delivery OK Easily light until the end then kept going out.

Im no expert, but like a quality smoke. I normally smoke Hoyo Epicures, various Davidoffs and Nicaraguan NUBs. Smoked this for the first time last week: its well-balanced, easy-going but with body; milk chocolate and walnuts for me. Will buy again. And it drew beautifully.

Best alternative to Romeo y Julieta. Sweet and mellow with an extra strength and coffee notes at the end. Something that makes this blend more interesting than Romeo if you want a different body strength and flavour finish at the end. David - C.Gars Ltd Cigar Ambassador

Last week I sampled the new Juan Lopez Superba RE16. Today I wanted to make a nice review of the regular production Juan Lopez No 2. Juan Lopez No 2 is in my opinion one of the best Constructed Havanas. It has a lovely wrapper. (I Love them when they come with a dark wrapper) The construction in flavour is amazing. The first part of this robusto 124mm x 50 is extremely woody (The regional edition one smells like nuts, this one smells sweet and woody) the first flavours are extremely lovely wood, and very sweet brown sugar notes. The second part is very mellow on my palate, I can recognise a few small notes of almonds. The third part is getting much more full bodied. Flavours are becoming very rich in sweet notes, some smooth white pepper notes, a bit spicy on my palate but just a little. The draw is lovely. I cannot find any problems in this cigar. Wonderful smoke. I would like to recommend trying this cigar with our two Stalla Dhu whiskies, if you like to combine flavours. For the first sweet part of the cigar, try our Stalla Dhu Islay; you can combine the sweetness of the cigar and a nice peaty whisky. If you would prefer to increase the sweetness, try our Stalla Dhu speyside. For the last part I would once again recommend a nice speyside. The full body of the cigar and the sweetness of this whisky is a wonderful combination. If you want to increase the strength go for the Islay. – David, Turmeaus Liverpool.
