Jose L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Habano not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region, but also because it is made using the totally hand made, short filler technique.

The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880's from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th century, and started to make cigars.

Well-made and also very good in the draw, this cigar carries rich, earthy aromas with rougher undertones. Always a pleasure to come back to these beauties.

Very average cigar, just had one and it was okay.. I suppose its a cheaper cigar so you can't expect too much! nice draw/burn however really didn't enjoy the taste, a bit bitter and generally not overly pleasant.

I purchased a bundle of 25 Conservas 18 months ago. I got through 10 of them initially and have left the other 15 in the humidor. I would say the construction of the cigar was good compared to the Cazadores which I think has a rougher look. I was not initially impressed with the cigar and considered it a reasonable priced Cuban, not overly sophisticated. I decided to smoke one tonight and was very impressed with how the cigar had matured over the last 18 months. The pre-light draw was earthy and gritty, I noticed the draw was looser than I’m used to with more expensive Cuban’s. I put this down to it being a short fill cigar, I feel ageing these cigars does loosen and soften them up a touch. After lighting, I found it to be sweet and leathery, moving on to earthy coffee flavours. Half way through the cigar I found it similar to the monty no 4. The last third of the cigar developed into bitter citrus flavours with a rougher edge. I smoked this stick to the nub and thoroughly enjoyed it. Get 12 months plus on these and you won’t be dissapounted.

just had one of these and i think the previous reviews are a little unfair. OK it wasnt the best made cigar in the world and the wrapper was a little rough but it burnt well and evenly. It is not exactly sophisticated or top notch but what do you expect at this price? It was a good, light-hearted, uncomplicated, late night smoke. Good for the price! written by gerryg

Went through 25 of these recently. I`ve smoked hundreds of Nacionales and quite a few Cazadores as well. Piedras all use the same tobacco (according to my tobacconist) - they`re a good, honest, fair priced Cuban smoke, better than some I could mention. They`re made to a price, and the quality control can be spotty. I`d rather have a poor Conserva than pay seventeen quid for a poor Churchill from a "top brand" - and to be quite honest, what with plugged cigars and unfolding wrappers appearing on even the "best" Cubans, it makes more sense to find a cheap everyday smoke which you enjoy, occaisionally smoking "specials" and the entire Piedra line does that nicely. We can`t all smoke the "best" all the time, and if you want a decent, honest, nice Cuban everyday smoke - here it is. What ARE people complaining about ?? Piedra could up their QC checks and sell for a lot more - and that`s what a lot of cigar companies do - hats off to Piedra, I say. ;-))))))) written by Dave Francis
