Jose L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Habano not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region, but also because it is made using the totally hand made, short filler technique.

The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880's from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th century, and started to make cigars.

  • An enjoyable taste and aroma. A pleasant medium flavoured smoke for a good price. It's not really complex and it has a slightly tangy, grassy taste of young tobacco amongst a fairly creamy coffee and woody flavour.

Reviews

Customers say
Customers generally find the Jose L Piedra Cazadores to be an excellent value Cuban cigar, offering a satisfying smoke with good flavour for its price point. However, it's a somewhat polarizing product, with a notable number of reviewers experiencing significant issues with construction, particularly tight draws and uneven burns, suggesting quality control can be inconsistent.
Best suited for those seeking an affordable, authentic Cuban cigar for an everyday smoke, especially if you're prepared for occasional inconsistencies in draw and burn, or are willing to age them.

@ Alistair: The £3.99 cigar you refer to is the petit Cazadores and not the full sized ones here.

Time to eat some humble pie. While on holiday on the Island of Kos at the start of this month, I visited a well stocked tobbaconist to supplement the 'holiday' supply I'd bought from CGars. 5 Siglo 1's and a few others were chosen. Then I saw the Piedra Cazadores at €4 each. I decided to buy one for a smoke as I had a coffee nearby. After my al fresco herf, I went back and bought 10 more and every one (I'm smoking the last one as I write) has been perfect! I was clearly unlucky the last time, and I feel I was a little hasty to judge. After all, if the quality control is not as stringent, some bad 'uns will slip through the net. I, like so many others, have had bad examples of more expensive well known brands. So, basing this on individual experiences, they get 5 stars. When they're good, they're bloody good!

I bought 5 of these along with 5 Nacionales and 6 Petit Cazadores, and was very disappointed with the Cazadores. None of them burned evenly and the draw was very poor. This is the second time I've bought this cigar, the first being very successful. I don't think, however, that after 4 bad cigars out of 5, I'll waste time on these again. The Nacionales and Petit Cazadores were much better.

I haven't personally tried these, yet. I did notice though (and correct me if I'm wrong, maths isn't my strong point) that as singles these go for £3.99 but in a bundle of 25 they work out at at £5.80 each! Is this right or is it a pricing error?
