    GUANTANAMERA

Guantanamera cigars are a relatively new cigar having been created and released in 2002, this cigar is now one of our most popular budget priced Cuban cigars.

The brand was named after perhaps Cubas' most well known song "Guajira Guantanamera" (Spanish for peasant girl from Guantánamo") by Joseito Fernández which can be heard in just about every bar in Cuba every evening.

The Guantanamera range comprises light strength machine-made cigars using short filler tobacco from the lesser Vuelta Arriba region.

Guantanamera cigars have pre-cut heads, a cigar cutter is not required.

  • This is a nice little cigar and an ideal smoke to accompany the drive home. Great flavour, not too strong and very smooth.

I guess these are direct competition for the Montecristo and Romeo & Julieta puritos and in my opinion fall at an apparent mid-point between the two - but come in as a little more expensive. I don't think you get more for your money with these but at an extra 20p a stick they are going to be worth trying out. The flavour is more complex than the RyJ, keeping the grassy/hay theme with a bit of nuttiness and some bolder tobacco flavours thrown in but are not quite up with those in quality of construction, although there were no problems to report. They don't have the punch of the Montecristos but are less prone to bitterness/tarriness. These are a good solid compromise. I enjoyed these overall but admittedly other puritos might offer other smokers more of what they are looking for for less money.

Nice little cigar. I've ordered these a few times and they make a fantastic 20 minute smoke for when time is short. Quite a smooth smoke with a peppery finish. I did however have one which went super bitter mid way. Could of been a bad stick, what do you want at under £2 per cigar. Will definitely be purchasing again

New to cigars and bought these along with a box of Montecristo but preferred these Guantanamera cigars. Nice smoke to get started on my cigar journey with about 15 minutes smoke time. Enjoyed with a nice glass of single malt whiskey.

I guess this would be a good cigar for beginners. Out of the packet, the stick has a spongy feel. Sniff test: Mild tobacco with (bizarrely) a faint underscore of urine. Initial impressions upon lighting: A nice, loose draw, with plenty of mild-tasting smoke. There's a mild taste of tobacco with an added underscore of cedar wood that lingers only briefly on your tongue. The first third had a good, steady burn. The ash is loose, and falls away within barely an inch. There's no change in the pleasant, mellow flavour. The middle third introduced a mild taste of creamy chocolate for a few draws. I also detected a taste of hops which, again, didn't last long. The final third maintained that mild taste. It did get a little stronger but it was still no more than a mild stick. In conclusion, this is a mild, mellow-tasting stick I would imagine would be an ideal starter for someone who hasn't smoked cigars before. Burn time is about 20 minutes so it's ideal for those with little time to spare. At the price, this is an okay smoke ideal for beginners.

Picked a few of these up recently to make a comparison between a few budget and a few slightly up market cigars. From a relative newbie, this was an enjoyable smoke. Very little complexity but plenty smooth. Bitter at times but very enjoyable on the whole. Is the 20ish minute smoke time suitable? Definitely. It's a little bland to spend much more than that. I enjoyed mine moments ago with a late morning coffee. The build quality is questionable; mine had started unravelling at the pre-cut. I bought two and upon checking the second, it looks of far better build. Perhaps I just got a shabby one! If you're a beginner, this is a great start. However, I also purchased a Clubmaster Tubed Panatella - vanilla in the same order. For the extra quid or so, that had a fantastic build, tubed and wrapped and in my humble opinion, was even smoother. No, it's not Cuban but who cares at this price point? If you can stretch to the above Clubmaster, do so. If not, this is worthy of the price.
