Germain & Son commenced manufacturing tobacco back in 1820. A family business located in Jersey boasting perfect climatic controlled conditions.
The experience gained by succeeding generations in the art of blending has produced the range of fine individual tobaccos available today. Their new factory is situated on the site of the original premises facing the harbour of St Helier from whence, 180 years ago, Jersey-built schooners sailed to many parts of the world, some returning with cargoes of leaf tobacco for Germain's factory.
The name of this tobacco originates from the early days when all tobaccos were pressed into cakes before cutting. Four types of Virginian tobaccos are blended with Cavendish and a specially prepared Black Tobacco.
The complete blend is then flavoured in accordance with a 70 year old formula to produce a honey sweet smoking tobacco with a unique aroma.
We have been reliably informed that the highly sort after Esoterica Stonehaven is made using the same blend as the Rich Dark Flake. However Stonehaven contains more additives, which are not allowed in the UK. Therefore the Rich Dark Flake is the closest Tobacco you will get to match Stonehaven in the UK.

The Rich Dark Flake is blended the traditional way using the same core base tobacco’s of Virginia and Burley. The flakes are dark Brown and almost Black in places due to the long curing process which brings out the natural sugars and depth of flavour.
This produces a full bodied smoke so is recommended for the experienced smoker.
This is a truly remarkable blend that really stands out from the norm. The flakes are finer than we usually see which makes for easier preparation and a slightly different burning characteristic.
A must try for any flake fanatic!
