A bottle of Foursquare Magisterium 16 Year Old Fine Barbados Single Blended Rum, the twenty-sixth release in the Award-Winning Exceptional Cask Selection series.
This was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks for 16 years, bottled at a cask strength of 58% ABV.
It contains a blend of Rums, distilled in the copper double retort pot-still and the continuous twin column stills of Foursquare and aged for sixteen years in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks.
More specifically, it is a blend of three aged Rums, a sixteen-year-old ex-bourbon cask and two dual-maturations; the first comprising three years in ex-Bourbon followed by thirteen years in ex-Oloroso Sherry cask, with the second comprising nine years in ex-Bourbon and seven years in ex-Oloroso Sherry.
A level of detail appreciated by enthusiasts of Foursquare Rum.
Released in March 2024 for Exceptional Cask Selection Mark XXVI.
Nose: Rich fudge and dark chocolate, dried raisins and sultanas. Tart dried mango and banana chips. Gentle notes of Seville orange peel, and a hint of coffee.
Palate: Silky onto the palate, soft and oily in the mouth. Rich salted caramel and toffee up-front, with a note of creamy vanilla ice cream. Dried dates, raisins, and pineapple. Tart black cherries at the back-end.
Finish: More dried pineapple, and tart dried mango. Gingerbread, and zesty lemon peel. Gentle grippy-oak and anise at the very end. Warming.
