  • FONSECA

Don Francisco Fonseca founded his brand in the 1890's.

A handsome man, who cared deeply for appearances, he passed his sartorial precision on to his cigars, which he dressed in a silky tissue paper - a tradition that continues to this day on all the Habanos that bear his name.

The image of Francisco Fonseca, who developed this brand in 1906, still adorns the box today. Only in limited distribution, the Fonseca brand is considered to exhibit a rich but mild flavour. Fonseca's delicate blend of filler and binder tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo zone makes it the ideal Habano to follow a light meal.

All UK sizes of Fonseca are tripa larga, ‘totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Reviews

Customers say
Customers generally find the Fonseca No. 1 to be a surprisingly good cigar, often praised for its smooth, creamy, and nuanced flavour profile, especially considering its accessible price point. While most enjoy a perfect draw and even burn, a few reviewers noted occasional harshness or a slightly tighter draw, particularly in the final third, suggesting some variability.
Ideal for those seeking a flavourful, well-constructed cigar that offers exceptional value and can hold its own against more expensive options, though some may experience minor inconsistencies.

These cigars are a treat for the senses, from their unique paper wrapping to the end of the smoke. There are slight grassy notes from the unlit draw which hint at the mild flavour to come. 1st third: Creamy, tobacco with a slight toasty edge to it, almost bordering on the acrid. Not too much nicotine and a nicely medium body of smoke. 2nd third: Developed into a creamy hazelnut note - still not too strong in the nicotine level. Final third: Some of the harshness from the initial light returns and the smoke becomes more acrid, irritating the back of the throat somewhat. I have since smoked others and they had less harshness and were more consistently creamy throughout, a pleasant cigar to "sip" over an hour or so. Good even burn and I have yet to have a badly constructed one although the sample number is admittedly low!

I was offered one of these when I never heard of the brand. What a pleasant surprise though. A nice, fresh medium aroma with delicately spicy flavours. Very easy draw and good construction. Oh... and did I mention value for money? written by Mihai

This smoke has beautiful dark roasty flavors and smokes very well. It burns well from start to finish with a cool draw. Nutmeg aroma just too good. One I smoke was bit dry yet enough to give me satisfaction. written by Michael

A really unique, almost grassy flavor. I would call this a medium bodied smoke, and not too harsh. I like it, but a couple of friends turned up their noses. Still, hard to beat for the price. written by SLH
