The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

Crafted from Oliva's Nicaraguan long-leaf tobaccos which undergo a meticulous aging process, which gives you a flavourful, rich and cream blend without the bite.

Tasting Notes

Iíve smoked a couple of these now and found the draw to be very tight. The smoke is a pleasant light flavour but the draw ruins the overall experience for me.

Just tried this cigar after nearly a year in the humidor, sweet/rich/earthy/natural aroma upon opening, the draw was absolutely spot on from the first puff, lovely woody and mild taste would go great with an espresso, light/medium body, no real transitions but held a smooth, rich and clean taste throughout.

Hmm, first thing that hits the back of the throat is a strong sensation of sugar (cane?), dont know if its intentional. An aquired taste. After a while it settled down to a subtler sweet taste which mixed nicely with the tabacco. Have a few more, see how I get on with them, so Im not sure if Ill buy them again.

Nice for the price and I was surprised at the flavours from this stick. Starts with a hint of pepper and spice, then mellows mid way and finishes with a touch more spice. Definitely benefits from time in the humidor.

I was only introduced to cigars about 6 months ago so by no means am I a cigar coniseur, but for me this was a fantastic cigar, the aroma was great, it lit beautifully, burnt evenly, held itís ash, nice smooth draw and plenty of smoke!! It was without a doubt one of those cigars you donít want to end!! Such an easy and enjoyable smoke. If your looking for a bigger cigar but donít want to spend big Cuban prices, then without a doubt find this one a go
