El Dorado 12 year old Rum is an absolutely gorgeous drink, having won gold at the Caribbean Rum Taste Test in London I decided I had to try it. It comes in a stunning looking bottle decorated with a calm ship sailing the seas. At 40% it is slightly stronger than your standard off the shelf rums at not much more of a price. But that extra bit of money you spend really does pay off. As soon as I opened the bottle there were strong smells of spiced vanilla, sweet toffee and just a tinge of smoke. I sampled this rum at room temperature as was recommended to me. With the first sip I was greeted by more vanilla and spice, and also cocoa caramel and raisin. The finish was very long and beautifully smooth, slowly tailing off and leaving me with a slightly smoky after taste. All in all this is one hell of a rum for the price and can definitely contend with some more expensive and premium rums that I've had the pleasure of sampling. - Connor Of Turmeaus Norfolk.
