In 1946, Zino Davidoff designed a line of cigars inspired by the world of wine. The blend would be selected depending on the soil and the climate in which the tobacco grew, and just as red wine blends three different main grapes, these cigars would feature three different fillers. The line we know as Davidoff Grand Cru today has its origins in this wine-cigar analogy. Davidoff's Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection cigar is the brand's first Grand Cru figurado format and features a filler tobacco that was aged in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask.

Cask ageing process - For enhance flavours and depth

The leaves are firmly pressed inside the Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask. As the temperature in the closed cask rises, the tobacco enters a fermentation process. The rise in temperature is checked regularly to prevent the tobacco from overheating.

The Dominican San Vicente seco filler tobacco ages for a total of six months in the cask, during which it gets flipped every two weeks applying a labour-intensive process. Meanwhile, the tobacco absorbs the wine aromas of the cask’s wood. This is a natural process during which no wine is applied to the tobacco leaves directly.

The cask ageing adds complexity and depth to the flavours. Especially by using a Dominican San Vicente seco tobacco, the cask ageing noticeably refines the overall taste, since the seco leaves are fine and can thus absorb more of the wine aroma.

1/3 - The exceptional experience begins with pronounced citrus notes. As the filler tobaccos become more prominent, the taste evolves towards pepper and roasted nuts. A pleasantly well balanced start with additional creamy notes.

2/3 - The wine cask aged Dominican San Vicente seco comes to the fore. Aromas of dark cherries dominate and create a taste reminiscent of a Bordeaux red wine. Notes of oak wood and earth complement the stimulation.

3/3 - The grand finale of the Diademas Finas is characterised by pronounced notes of walnut and an increase in intensity. Additional flavours of fresh spice and vanilla add the finishing touches to this truly Grand Cru experience.
