Diageo, the world’s largest spirits company, as well as the planet’s largest distiller of Scotch whisky, has been releasing each year, since 2001, a selection of 10 special releases from its hallowed whisky vaults.
The latest 2018 releases consist of bottlings from stocks of now closed distilleries, and special new expressions from their existing lineup of single malts, which features both extra young and extra old age statements, whiskies bottled at cask strength or whiskies not previously available as single malts.
Cladach is intended to capture the essence of Scotland's coastline.
This bottling combines whiskies from Caol Ila, Oban, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Talisker and Inchgower distilleries
This Cladach combines a unique blend of malts from six renowned coastal distilleries
Nose: Initially soft as a well-loved jumper, with more fruit than smoke or overtly ‘coastal’ character. Ripe citrus notes and an appealing creaminess, with a slight hint of smoke in the background.
Palate: Smoke is now more prominent, but it’s only a brief appearance before tropical fruit takes over. A knot of intense waxiness sits on the back of the tongue as sweet caramel toffee and a lift of salt round the palate off.
Finish: A shy reminder of smoke.
