The Borgo del Mandorlo Primitivo is sourced from top vineyards in the DOC Manduria zone - home of Italy's best Primitivo vineyards in Puglia.
At harvest, some of the grapes are given a little Ripasso, or drying on racks, to increase the intensity and concentration of the wine.
Borgo del Mandorlo is a tribute to Puglia, to its history. In the Roman times, Pliny the Old owned the wonderful and special marvels of the lands now in the provinces of Taranto and Lecce; one of this places can be visited and has his name: the Plinian source.
It’s a large natural cave where light enters through a small space. The entrance has a circular wall of sandstone.
The really marvellous thing is that an almond tree has grown there. It is a tree loved by the Puglian inhabitants and we have drawn our inspiration for the name of our Puglian wines.
Enchanting wines, full bodied and intense that will delight you sip after sip.
Food Pairing: Great wine for roasted and grilled meats. Ideal with game dishes. Excellent with mature hard cheeses.
Nose: The nose gives aromas of red and black fruits.
Palate: Notes of raspberry, blackberry, cherry and plum, along with spicy pepper notes. Subtle notes of oak, liquorice and fig.
Finish: This wine has a very solid structure due to the elevated alcohol and the balance between the soft tannins and acidity.
