The Bolívar Petit Coronas is a classic Cuban Mareva vitola cigar that offers a rich, full-bodied smoking experience in a compact format. Right from the cold draw, this cigar reveals notes of damp earth, cedar, and a subtle spice, with the unlit foot giving off aromas of cocoa, barnyard, and roasted nuts. Upon lighting, the first third of the cigar introduces bold flavors of dark earth, espresso, and black pepper. The smoke is thick and oily, with a slightly bitter chocolate edge and a strong mineral character that lingers on the palate. The retrohale delivers a peppery zing, true to Bolívar’s robust style of cigars.

As the cigar progresses into the second third, the initial intensity mellows slightly, allowing more refined notes to develop. Leather, toasted almond, and a hint of molasses come forward, layered over a background of charred oak and Cuban soil. The draw on this cigar remains consistent, and the burn line is generally sharp. Subtle sweet-spice undertones—like cinnamon or nutmeg—begin to emerge, balancing the cigar’s deeper, earthier tones and adding a satisfying complexity to the midsection of this fine cigar.

In the final third, the Bolivar Petit Coronas cigar ramps up in strength again. Flavors concentrate into a rich mix of dark roast coffee, leather, and a touch of anise. A slightly salty, umami-like note appears near the nub, enhancing the cigar’s long and full-flavored finish. Despite its smaller size, this cigar offers a robust and evolving experience ideal for those who enjoy rich, earthy Cuban cigars. Perfectly paired with a strong espresso or a peaty Scotch, and complemented by aged cheeses or dark chocolate, the Bolívar Petit Coronas is a go-to cigar for experienced smokers seeking depth in a shorter smoke.

  • Overall Impression:

The Bolívar Petit Coronas is a compact yet powerful Cuban cigar that delivers rich, full-bodied flavor in a classic Mareva format. Known for its earthy depth, notes of dark cocoa, espresso, leather, and spice unfold with balance and intensity throughout the smoke. Despite its smaller size, this cigar offers a complex and rewarding experience, making it a favorite among seasoned aficionados who value strength and traditional Cuban character in a shorter format.

Surprisingly strong for a petit corona, with a very full spicy aroma. If you want a mini corona gigantes, because you are short of time this is the mareva sized cigar for you. Dark wrappers, full flavour and full strength rounded off to near perfection.

Compare this Mareva with others and you will appreciate its richness of flavour. A powerful smoke and perhaps not for a beginner.

  • Drink Pairings:

    • Aged Rum – A dark, complex rum like Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva or Ron Zacapa 23 enhances the cigar's notes of cocoa, molasses, and spice.

    • Espresso or Turkish Coffee – The cigar’s earthy intensity pairs beautifully with the bitterness and richness of a strong black coffee.

    • Peated Scotch Whisky – A dram of Lagavulin 16 or Ardbeg 10 adds smoky, savory depth that mirrors the cigar's mineral and leather tones.

    • Port or Madeira – A sweet fortified wine like Tawny Port offers a smooth contrast to the cigar’s boldness, especially if you prefer a slightly softer pairing.

  • Food Pairings:

    • Dark Chocolate (70% or higher) – Enhances the cigar’s cocoa and espresso notes while adding a silky sweetness to the palate.

    • Cured MeatsJamón Ibérico, bresaola, or salami bring out the cigar’s salty, umami edge and balance its strength.

    • Aged Cheese – Hard cheeses like manchego, aged gouda, or Parmigiano-Reggiano complement the cigar’s nutty and woody flavors.

    • Spiced Lamb or Beef Skewers – Dishes seasoned with cumin, paprika, or garlic resonate with the cigar’s earthy and spicy undertones.

  • The history of Bolivar cigars

Simon Bolivar was one of the great historic figures of the 19th Century who liberated much of South America from Spanish rule.

The Bolivar brand was created in 1902 and is based today in the Partagas factory which is in the heart of Havana.

It is perhaps not surprising that a Habano named after such a powerful figure is blended to match his might. Bolivar is among the strongest, most full bodied of all Habanos. It boasts an unrivalled richness of flavour in its blend of Vuelta Abajo zone filler and binder tobacco that makes it one of the most sought-after marques amongst experienced smokers.

All sizes of Bolivar are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano,’ – long filler, totally handmade. It is the brand of choice for enthusiasts who like strong flavours!

  • "Semi-box pressed with a lightly colored wrapper and nice cap. The draw and burn are notably uneven, but the cigar still produces medium-bodied peppery, nutty flavors with a leathery finish..."

Customers say
Customers generally find the Bolivar Petit Coronas to be a flavorful and satisfying smoke, often praised for its rich, complex taste and smooth experience. While many enjoy its construction and draw, a notable number of reviewers encountered issues with tight draws or uneven burns, sometimes leading to disappointment.
Best suited for those who appreciate a medium to full-bodied Cuban cigar with complex flavors and are prepared for the possibility of needing a draw tool.

By far the best Cuban Ive had in a long time. The draw was perfect and the taste a very pleasant medium/cream affair. This was the first Bolivar Ive tried and it far exceeds other Cubans Ive had recently. Ill definitely be ordering more and exploring the full range. Bolivar may now just be my Cuban brand.

This was really disappointing. Really tight draw and had to keep relighting. Lips began to burn very early in amd genuinely regretted this one.

I also received this cigar as part of Cigars.Ltd sampler. I agree with many of the other comments. There’s a nice creamy sweetness to the taste throughout. Not too strong, I’d describe as med to full. The Nicotine buzz is not very strong. Altogether, a good all around smoke but probably not going to WOW you!

Petite Corona is probably my favorite vitola. My go to 90 percent of the time is Montecristo number 4. I acquired 5 of these sticks in a CGars Bolivar sampler. Upon receipt, I put these in the humidor which contained my Montecristo no.4 stash. I selected a late night stick to accompany a 12 year old Macallan, again supplied by CGars, my go to for aged Macallan. Unaware, I picked the Bolivar and fired it up, I immediately realised that I was not smoking the number 4. It opened with spice, pepper, and moved into barnyard hay and earth. The draw on this cigar was perfect. Half way through it got creamy and the spice and pepper continued throughout the smoke. I had an expectation of this cigar being full bodied, but I feel that this example was medium. I enjoyed this cigar and wasnt disappointed, Im sure it would have more to offer with a few more years on it. Would I buy more of these? Yes I would, but if I was looking to buy a full box of petit coronas Id have to go with the Monty no. 4.

Incredible cigar with superbly rich tastes and aroma. The power was also just right balance, not to be shrugged off with impunity, yet not to be taken too seriously.I ranked the Partagas petit coronas especiales highest among the petit coronas but this is right there with it.
