The Bolívar Coronas J cigar is a small-format Cuban cigar that delivers far more complexity than its modest size suggests. From the cold draw, this cigar reveals notes of damp earth, cedar, and a hint of pepper, while the foot offers aromas of leather and barnyard. Upon lighting, the first third of the cigar opens boldly with rich earthiness, espresso bitterness, and a touch of dark cocoa. The smoke is dense and creamy, and the retrohale introduces a balanced pepper spice that lingers pleasantly — a signature of the Bolívar cigar profile.
In the second third, the cigar’s peppery strength begins to settle, allowing more nuanced flavors to emerge - including toasted nuts, woodsmoke, and a subtle caramel sweetness. This cigar maintains an even burn and a consistently firm draw, reflecting its excellent Cuban construction. As the cigar progresses, hints of roasted coffee and mineral-rich soil continue to build, reinforcing the bold, full-bodied reputation of the Bolívar cigar line in a refined, compact vitola.
In the final third, the cigar’s flavors deepen further with strong notes of leather, burnt sugar, and a slightly salty, umami edge near the nub. The finish is long, earthy, and satisfying - a reminder that this cigar, though small, delivers a truly full experience.

The Bolivar Coronas J cigar is a compact powerhouse of a cigar - bold, aromatic, and full of character - making it the perfect short smoke for seasoned aficionados seeking the unmistakable Bolívar strength in a shorter format.

Drink Pairings:
Aged Rum: A rich, well-aged rum like Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva or Ron Zacapa 23 complements the cigar’s dark chocolate, leather, and earthy tones with its sweet molasses and spice.
Espresso or Turkish Coffee: The bitterness and intensity of a strong black coffee pair beautifully with the cigar’s bold character and enhance the cocoa and roasted notes.
Islay Scotch (Lightly Peated): A dram like Lagavulin 16 or Caol Ila 12 adds smoky complexity without overwhelming the cigar’s structure.
Food Pairings:
Dark Chocolate (70–80% cacao): Echoes the cigar’s cocoa bitterness while smoothing the palate.
Cured Meats (like Jamón Ibérico or Bresaola): The salty, umami-rich flavors work harmoniously with the cigar’s earthy and leathery notes.
Manchego or Aged Gouda: Hard, aged cheeses bring a nutty richness that complements the cigar’s middle third beautifully.
Spiced Lamb Kofta or Moroccan Tagine: Earthy spices like cumin and coriander resonate with the cigar’s deeper mineral and leather tones.
These pairings aim to balance the cigar’s intensity while highlighting its complexity. The Bolívar Coronas J may be small, but its bold flavor profile invites thoughtful, flavour-rich accompaniments.
The History of Bolivar cigars
Simon Bolivar was one of the great historic figures of the 19th Century who liberated much of South America from Spanish rule.
The Bolivar Cuban cigar brand was created in 1902 and is based today in the Partagas factory which is in the heart of Havana.
It is perhaps not surprising that a Habano named after such a powerful figure is blended to match his might. Bolivar cigars are among the strongest, most full bodied of all Habanos. It boasts an unrivalled richness of flavour in its blend of Vuelta Abajo zone filler and binder tobacco that makes it one of the most sought-after marques amongst experienced smokers.
All sizes of Bolivar Cuban cigars are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano,’ – long filler, totally handmade. It is the brand of choice for enthusiasts who like strong flavours!
"Pressed and petit, this little cigar has an ample draw that loads the palate with big notes of cedar and oak complemented by touches of walnut, dried apricot and stone before an oaky, white-wine finish..."
